Title: Windows System Administrator

Type: 6 month contract w/extension

Location: Birmingham, AL

Pay: $43/hr

This position interfaces closely with portfolio developers and database administrators to design, implement, tune, and troubleshoot server solutions for new development projects, enhancements to existing solutions, and implementation of purchased vendor packages. This position ensures that proper configuration, support, performance and security are in place.  Significant coordination is required with developers and database support groups for operating system upgrades, software upgrades, migrations, and hardware replacements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide system administration for Windows Servers utilized by the IT Generation department
  • Perform server administration and maintenance, consisting of:
  • OS and related software installs, upgrades and patches (including security patching)
  • Active Directory and Group Policy setup and maintenance
  • DNS/WINS configuration and management
  • Deployment of custom and vendor software to desktops with minimal impacts to end user
  • Space monitoring and management/Capacity planning
  • Performance analysis and tuning
  • System backups and recovery
  • Setup and configure VMware including high availability options
  • Provide root cause analysis, efficient production support and maintenance for existing Windows Servers
  • Provide consultation on application issues as it relates to Servers and hardware
  • Provide consulting and support for new and existing vendor software
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge with emphasis on Windows and server related skills
  • Participate in on-call duty pager rotation
  • Understand Fleet Operations and Trading Floor and Financial and Contract services business drivers, processes and data

 Requirements:

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred
  • Multiple years of Windows Server implementation and maintenance experience
  • Multiple years of technical problem resolution experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows operating system and server administration, especially Windows 2003 and 2008.
  • Experience in Software deployment tools, like SCCM and Numara
  • Experience in backup and recovery processes using NetBackup
  • Experience in Microsoft Clustering and server high availability
  • Experience with supporting web farms and load balancer configurations (F5 BIG-IP)
  • Experience setting up and managing a large VMware ESXi implementation
  • Working knowledge of VERITAS Volume Manager for Windows
  • Strong team player with ability to work independently
  • Effectively and accurately organizes tasks, manages multiple priorities/details, and meets tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organization skills with the ability to understand and apply new technology and interact with customers to support their needs
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • General knowledge of IT infrastructure components
  • Dell Blade experience is a plus*
  • VERITAS Volume Replication is a plus*
  • Red Hat Linux experience is a plus*
