Regional Health & Safety Manager

Our Client is an international company with its headquarters based in France. The Environmental Division of OUR CLIENT designs, produces and commissions waste treatment plants that use constantly evolving clean technologies that meet the strictest standards for performance and control of environmental impacts.

OUR CLIENT currently have 10 projects in the UK for the design, build and commissioning of Waste to Energy Plants and Bio Mass Plants in the UK. The projects are at various stages in the construction phase, 2 projects are expected to be completed early 2014 and others have yet to start on site.

The overall purpose of role is to support our UK H&S Manager in reviewing, improving and reinforcing our approach to health & safety in the UK to ensure that OUR CLIENT is operating in total compliance with current UK legislation, regulations and best practice.

Key responsibilities:
  • · Responsible for the H&S across allocated OUR CLIENT sites in the UK and for is coordination and consistency in the approach on all sites, through the direction of the UK H&S Manager.
  • · Report to the UK H&S Manager of any inconsistencies or specific difficulties on specific sites and present solutions to the UK H&S Manager to deal with these issues as they arise.
  • · Liaise with the UK H&S Manager to ensure that, where appropriate, there is coordination and consistency between the approaches adopted for the UK projects and the global OUR CLIENT policies.
  • · Appoint and manage health and safety representatives on each site.
  • · Implement and monitor adherence to H&S management system on allocated sites to ensure a consistent approach. Review and implement any necessary updates to ensure compliance with current UK legislation.
  • · Prepare H&S reports for the JV Boards and attend JV Board meetings provide regular updates to the UK H&S Manager, directors and the JV board on all H&S issues.
  • · Coordinate with the civil contractors and sub-contractors on health and safety.
  • · Manage relationships and correspondence with HSE on each site.
  • · Ensure that site specific and relevant induction processes are in place on site for all OUR CLIENT employees and sub-contractors.
  • · Liaise with the Purchasing Team in OUR CLIENT in France to ensure proper selection of sub-contractors or the UK sites in accordance with the CDM Regulations. Organise and implement the H&S training for OUR CLIENT representatives on site and for all companies or subcontractors working through a OUR CLIENT contract. Ensure that all people working on site on the behalf of OUR CLIENT will have the relevant qualification or accreditation for the job they are in charge to do and that the training is appropriate and consistent across all of the sites.
  • · Provide a monthly H&S report for each project and overall report for allocated site activities.
  • · Check that the site security is in place and ensure protester action plan is being followed and ensure sites are compliant to UK safety regulation.
  • · Attend regular meetings on each project and in particular UK Project Safety meetings on behalf of OUR CLIENT where practicable and advise Project Directors accordingly on any improvements that need to be implemented.
  • · Guide and support the project team on compliance with CDM Matters.


Qualifications and Experience:
  • · Diploma in Health & Safety (not essential)
  • · NEBOSH
  • · Member of IOSH
  • · Of the Renewable Energy Sector and/or Waste to Energy
  • · Multi-site experience
  • · Managing people
