Media Relations Manager
Location: London and 2-3 days in Swindon
A Media Relations Manager (or Press Officer) is required to work for a major insurance company in London and Swindon.
Role: Liaison with external media ie agencies, journalists etc.
Purpose:
* To deliver a pro-active and re-active media relations service to the company's businesses reflecting and promoting the business's strategy.
* To act as trusted adviser to the business on media relations aspects of activity: reputation management.
* To optimise positive coverage of the company and minimise negative through effective news management.
Key Accountabilities:
* Media relations planning and execution for specific and agreed business areas in collaboration with the key business stakeholders.
* Working flexibly across UK media team on specific projects/announcements/launches etc.
* Working closely with marketing, employee comms and GAIA, and with press offices, to ensure consistency and co-ordination of messages.
Qualifications/Experience:
* At least 1 year's previous proven media experience (journalism; in-house press office; PR agency)
* Knowledge/experience of financial services is an advantage
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
* Understanding of the principles of media relations
* Understanding of the industry
* Ability, confidence and judgement to act as spokesperson
* Excellent communications skills
* Flexibility
* Strong written skills - creative, concise and accurate
* Calm and effective crisis management
* Ability to prioritise effectively and work to tight deadlines when under pressure
* Ability to deal professionally and effectively with people at all levels, internally and externally
