My client is looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their Rail Infrastructure Electrification and Power team for an initial 6 months with the possibility for extension.

What does that team do?

The key areas of work revolves around the provision of design solutions for HV systems, Traction Power systems (ac & dc), Contact systems (Overhead Line and 3 rd /4 th rail), Trackside LV systems (e.g. signalling power, points heating, lighting, level crossing installations, REB supplies, tunnel electrical services), Depot equipment and facilities (e.g. train washers, wheel lathes, CET, train lifting, sanding) and station equipment (e.g. Lifts and escalators, platform screen doors, travelators, standby power generation, UPS).

What do they need you for?

The main function of this position is to provide LV electrical engineering consultancy services and electrical designs in compliance with Railway and international standard requirements. The role will involve all aspects of analytical work associated interpretation, organisation and production of the required design solutions.

What do you need to have?

Knowledge and understanding of the UK rail industry and the E & P systems that it uses.
Good knowledge and understanding electrical principles, BS7671 and the electricity at work act.
Knowledge of Network Rail, London Underground E & P related standards and requirements.
Ability to read and understand railway standards.
Ability to use and a good understanding of the software applications that can be utilised in the production of LV design solutions( e.g. Hevacomp, Amtech, DialLux, Relux) ability to produce electrical designs using CAD software (AUTOCad, Microstation).
A demonstrated ability for team working and building relationships, internal and external.
A proven ability to deliver outputs to the required quality, on time and on budget including the ability to work to challenging timescales when required

Good experience in LV distribution in railway network systems.
The candidate should be prepared to work away from the office base occasionally, when required, including overseas.
