System Support Engineer

Summary

The response to and resolution of issues with both the regional and global infrastructure server environment setup hosted within the ITS for the Wintel/Citrix environment to ensure maximum provision of service.

Job description/requirements

  • Provision and Administer Wintel based infrastructure services supported by ITS ie Citrix infrastructure and all the rest of infrastructure services tightly connected to it (Active Directory, Print server, File server, etc).
  • Consults as required on a project by project on server specification and capacity adhering to Global standards.  
  • For all products, services and systems within the area of responsibility, demonstrates, installs and commissions infrastructure Servers and their routine upgrades. Provides information on updates, known errors, changes in availability, new facilities etc.
  • Administration of Citrix Servers and other tightly connected infrastructure services within the ITS, but also migration of multiple Citrix environments in the ITS.
  • Responsible for administering NAS shares for the Citrix environment.
  • Data restore/backup management using Veritas product suite.
  • Responsible for the timely deployment of critical security patches to all Servers supported by the Citrix team.
  • Responsible for the testing, packaging and successfully deploying software/applications to Citrix environment using the DSF tool or other products that are chosen/used by the Citrix team.
  • Build, configure and support the underlying server hardware/virtual server environment, to host new applications according to global server build standards.
  • Provides advice to users on systems, products and services, which are available to them.
  • Interprets technical or procedure manuals on behalf of non-technical users and provides routine training in normal usage of systems, products and services, providing information on the full range of capabilities.
  • Responsible for the creation of the technical documentation for the Citrix environment and tightly connected infrastructure services in use/supported by the Citrix team.

Additional information

  • Proficient knowledge of Wintel server infrastructure (Win)
  • Proficient administration skills in Citrix, Win and Active Directory
  • Proficient application deployment and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient in Networking technology (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Proficient in Citrix client and server setup and support
  • Proficient with server data backup technology (Veritas NetBackup)
  • Proficient with HP Openview or other monitoring technology
  • Proficient knowledge of Operations Center processes and working practices, in particular DC Operations, Help Desk, and Change Mgmt.
  • Familiar with HP Service Desk (training will be provided)
  • Aware of Programming/Scripting Languages (CMD, VB Scripting)
  • Aware of Corporate, Industry and Professional Standards (ITIL) 
  • 6 years IT experience
  • 2 years in similar role
