Description

Mechanical Design Engineer required to undertake mechanical engineering tasks within multi-disciplined project teams for the installation design of platform subsystems. The role will take a holistic approach to mechanical engineering, taking into account factors such as safety, cost, ease of manufacture and through-life support.

Typical activities will include:
Responsible for the mechanical design solutions within the Electronic Architecture Team, including Concepting, Packaging and Installation design.
Responsible for mechanical design during all phases of the development life cycle.
Responsible for mechanical specifications and analysis of design solutions to meet requirements.
Responsible for cost of design, ease of manufacture and systems integration of mechanical solutions.
Responsible for the integrity of the mechanical design solution, including safety.
Responsible for liaising with human factors and supportability engineering.
Support mechanical designs during:
Concept development through various phases of a projects life cycle.
Platform experimentation work.
Installation of platform subsystems into military platforms.
Prepare material for internal and external design reviews.
Receiving inputs in various forms and formats, including softcopy drawings, marked-up hardcopy drawings and engineering sketches in order to support high-quality final drawings to required standards.
Effectively communicate design options & constraints to a multi-disciplined team throughout all phases of a project's life cycle.
Participate in the physical installation of sub-systems into the platform environment during research; prototype and pre-series production build activities.

The successful candidate will have the below skills:
Land Platform experience.
Working knowledge of ProE and PDM toolset.
Applied working knowledge of 3D CAD packages and BoM structures.
Full understanding of BS8888 design practices.
Full understanding of mechanical standards for fabricating, machining and finishing. Electrical subsystem packaging and platform installation experience.
Ability to liaise with and present information to multi-disciplined team members.
Ability to interpret mechanical design requirements and propose design solutions.
Ability to produce mechanical designs using value engineering eg consideration of production costs, assembly times and ease of manufacture.
Applied working knowledge of FEA computer aided modelling.
Understanding of EMC design issues and mitigation methods.
