My client a major national financial institution, are looking for an IT expert to join this specialist team. The team this position falls within is responsible for critical systems within the business and is made up of Architects, Senior Developers, DBA's, Network specialists and more. They are looking for someone who is an SME in one of these areas, however has the ability to see the broader picture and understand all aspects of the IT cycle.
The preferred technologies are Microsoft technologies such as Web Tier, Applications Tier, Cloud, Middleware Tier (Tibco/Fusion), IFW, EP, Ruby etc. A strong understanding of any of these would be suitable.
The key to being successful in this role is by having a holistic approach to your work. For example if you are an SME in one area, you will understand that any changes you do will have an impact on other areas.
One of the main needs of the business is to create a preferred pattern in which everyone is following in order for all reporting to follow the same process and any system creations/upgrades to follow one standardized process.
This is a highly technical environment, heavily application focused, working on most of the organisations critical systems - either creating and setting up new systems or upgrading current systems. New technologies will be introduced on a regular basis and the team will need find the preferred SME for each of these technologies.
Although this is highly technical, you will need to also be business facing. You will need extremely strong communication skills in order to have an impact on others in the team and business. You may need to alter architecture, or deal with the testing team in what can be described as a fairly political environment.
