Experience/Skills:
Experience with Oracle RAC 10.2 or above.
A minimum of 6 - 8 years related experience
Computer system experience in UNIX preferably Linux is required.
Experience writing UNIX Shell Scripts.
Oracle Certification preferred.
Strong analytical skills;
Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle;
Good communication skills, both written and verbal;
Project management and supervisory experience preferred.

Education:
Bachelors' degree in a technical field (Computer Science or related) or relevant experience required.

DBA supports the development and enterprise production environment(s). The DBA is supporting project development, project modelling, client software support, web application support and/or non-oracle tasks support. Many oracle databases will be hosted and will require database administration.

Every oracle database requires database administration support.

The list below represents the six most common ways to categorize the DBA role for managing oracle production environments:
1. Ongoing, day to day tasks (without project deliverables), such as reviewing space reports and responding to non-critical requests for help.
2. Responding to interruptions or time-critical requests for help.
3. Development of DBA procedures and tools provides the database administrator techniques to work smarter and efficiently in their job.
4. Planned participation in an application development implementation or sustaining processes.
5. Perform non-related Oracle DBA task such as business processes and/or non-related oracle on-going support.
6. Continuous Quality Improvements by self training on new technologies, products trends and database administration techniques.

Basic database administrator's responsibilities will include the following tasks:
Installing and upgrading the Oracle Server and application tools
Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system
Creating primary database storage structures
Creating primary objects (tables, views, procedures, etc)
Modifying the database structure (as required)
Controlling users and maintaining system security
Ensuring compliance with your Oracle license agreement
Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database
Planning for backup and recovery of database information
Maintaining archived data to different media's
Backing up and restoring the database
Database Design (physical data modelling)
Contacting Oracle Corporation for technical support and troubleshooting research assistance
Self Training new technologies
Troubleshooting Client Server (2 and 3 tier) environments
Web application installs/upgrades/configuration and support
2+ years experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and MySQL required
The database administrator's must have knowledge in managing the Oracle Server:
Database server architecture, components and services
Extensive knowledge in the Servers memory structure and processes
Startup and Shutdown processes
Database structure and space management
Data concurrency and consistency
Distributed processing and distributed databases
Startup and shutdown processes
Database security management and user access structure
Database Backup/Restore/Recovery management
Object-Relational model for database management
Database designing, planning and creating

Oracle Flexible Architecture
Database Planning, layout, design and construct
Various operating systems (UNIX, NT, etc )
SQL Language
Basic PL/SQL language
Apply capacity planning and performance tuning metrics
De-fragmentation techniques
Operating Systems (Solaris, Linux, Windows 2000)
Hardware capabilities (Intel processors and Sun series)
The database administrator should have an understanding of the following tools:
Oracle Enterprise Manager and add-on packages (Lock mgr, TS mgr, SQL analysis, etc )
Export/Import utilities
SQL*Plus, Server Manager and SQL*Loader
Development life cycle and methodologies
Explain Plan, TK profs
Virtual DBA and Dfrag
3rd party tools for backup/recovery, media components and tools
Web Application Server
