Amara (universalsubtitles.org) is an award-winning and rapidly growing platform for collaboratively subtitling and translating video on the web. Our free and open-source toolset is used by the New York Times, Khan Academy, Al Jazeera, PBS, and many more companies, organizations, and individuals.

We’re looking for an exceptional and experienced web developer with serious Django and JavaScript chops to join our team. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated and technically sound, cares about the quality of her/his code, and is passionate about usability and accessibility. Skills & Requirements
In addition to Django experience, you should have a strong command of Python and a track record for delivering clean, maintainable code. Experience with any of the following is an added bonus:
  • Solr
  • Vagrant
  • Puppet
  • Git
  • Django Apps (South, Fabric, Celery, i18n, Haystack)
  • Unix
  • High-availability systems (0% downtime)


  • We work almost entirely remotely, so you should communicate well and be comfortable and efficient working on your own. We do have employees in New York City, Providence, and Rochester NY if you would like to work alongside other staff.
