Senior WordPress Developer (longterm position)

FanBoom is looking for a Senior WordPress Developer who will be responsible for leading the ongoing development of new features and maintenance of existing ones for our WordPress multisite based application.

Key goals include developing product improvements and scaling the website while maintaining consistent site up-time and fast page-load times.

We are looking for a dependable WordPress developer, who is also very comfortable with front-end coding and with MySQL. The role involves managing the development process and working with the CEO and COO as well as other developers.

This is a hands-on role and the lead developer will ideally have a minimum 3 years of experience at a significant WordPress-based website or a portfolio of exceptional WordPress sites. The ideal candidate will ideally be based in the UK, however workers from other locations will be considered provided they are able to demonstrate considerable experience and ideally able to work to a GMT timezone.

The chosen candidate will have a solid understanding of modern JavaScript and object-oriented PHP and be able to maintain, improve and extend the WordPress-powered SaaS.

Key Responsibilities:

Working as part of a small team, the senior developer will be responsible for:

New coding for new features and also improving our existing themes, plugins, and third party integrations

Working with web services/APIs across our network of websites.

Developing new features (plugins and themes)

Ongoing system maintenance and optimization

Testing new website code prior to deployment

Managing all source code in Github

Gathering requirements, estimating projects, and performing approved tasks

Communicating with our userbase on technical support issues and bugs

Project management and team/project management (with sufficient experience)

This person also needs to be a great communicator who can explain technical issues to non-technical people, who writes clean, maintainable, secure, performant code and can come up with smart feature ideas. They should have experience of working with large code-bases and they need to be comfortable on the command line.

Essential Skills/Knowledge:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Flexibility regarding changing priorities and the ability to meet deadlines

High motivation to complete projects while working remotely

Excellent communicator

Significant WordPress experience, including multisite

Experience with the WordPress API is essential.

Theme and Plugin Development

A strong background and skillset working with web services/APIs

Facebook API and development

Solid Object-oriented PHP

Javascript

Git and Github

Strong HTML, CSS

Experience managing other developers

AWS

The ideal person keeps up to date with the latest developments in WordPress, PHP and JavaScript and has an online coding profile of some sort.

This is a long term position so we are looking for the right person who is committed to growing with our business, playing a key role in associated projects and who will be with us long term.
