Senior R&D EngineerGeneral Summary:
Conducts independent hands-on engineering work in development, sustaining engineering, commercialization support, and research projects. Works on complex, broad scope projects quickly with minimal technical and tactical direction in a fast paced environment, producing rapid results. Viewed as an expert in multiple aspects of in-house technology, providing input and guidance where indicated. Demonstrates excellent judgment and the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, principles, and practices of own field and related sciences and disciplines.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1) Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement that supports BSC Los Gatos' Quality Policy, Quality System and the appropriate regulations for the area supported. Ensure employees are trained to do their work and their training is documented.
2) As an individual, drives complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Work is expected to result the development of new or refined technologies, products, materials, processes, equipment, and or scientific methods.
3) Uses knowledge and skills to quickly generate and implement unique and creative solutions to technical challenges that the team cannot otherwise resolve
4) Assesses the feasibility and soundness of alternative engineering processes, products, designs, or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or when confirmation by testing is not advisable
5) Interacts with physicians to identify needs and problems and provide timely responses. Convert needs into product concepts.
6) Successfully completes engineering work typically including the following: product design and development, sustaining engineering, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigations (animal and clinical studies), report preparation, and other activities of wide scope requiring broad knowledge of precedents in medical device design and development and good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.
7) Discloses patentable new product ideas
8) Insure self and reports comply with quality objectives, training, and documentation requirements
9) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
10) Excellent problem identification and solving skills.
11) Works well independently and in a team, with good judgment and influencing skills. Has ability to lead a team, when necessary.
12) Independently prioritizes work and solutions to meet business needs.
Position Qualifications
BS Engineering or related discipline, plus 5+ years directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience required to perform at this level. Degree, experience, or aptitude in mechanical engineering preferred. Experience with Nitinol a plus.
