I am currently looking for a Safety Consultant for a Role based in the North West. The contract will run for an initial 18 months starting October/Novemeber with likely extensions on the back of it.

Responsibilities
Tasks include the review and production of underpinning documentation relating to the safety cases for a wide range of facilities on the Sellafield Site.

Project Length
The project is scheduled until March 2016, although the main resource requirement is for the first year and a half of the project.

Necessary Skills and Experience
Experience in dealing with safety cases (relevance might be with production, development, guidance, implementation or their management) in a general sense in order to be able to interpret the methods and techniques, and in particular the conclusions and their significance in terms of risk and consequence.
Experience in the general nuclear industry to a level of understanding the key issues of safety of operating a nuclear reprocessing site.
Candidate should have some knowledge and be able to articulate the major hazards for some of the following broad areas:
* spent fuel transport and storage
* Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) handling & storage
* reprocessing
* highly active waste storage
* vitrification
* medium active (solid and liquid) waste handling and storage
* storage of Plutonium Contaminated Materials (PCM)
* decommissioning (alpha and beta-gamma plants)
Candidate should have good interpersonal skills as they will need to liaise with a variety of personnel both within the project and with staff across site effectively.

Desired Skills and Experience
Significant experience in preparing, reviewing, and/or managing the development of safety assessments, ideally using Sellafield Ltd. safety assessment methodology.
Experience in support or development of emergency management arrangements.
Experience at the Sellafield site relating to safety of operations.
Experience in use (or even development) of computer/web based systems for the manipulation and presentation of information.

Security Clearance
SC necessary, DV desirable

Location
Predominantly full-time, with initially a minimum of 3 days per week attendance at Sellafield being required, which may be reduced at the discretion of the project leadership after the initial phase of familiarisation, establishment, training and experience is completed. It will be necessary, however, for continued and regular attendance at site in order to continue to be effective. At other times working remote from site is possible at the discretion of management.
