VMware Architect, Virtualisation Architect
Responsibilities:
- Configure VMware hypervisor and develop scripted, configurable templates to automate server deployment. Design and build resilience in line with BC/DR requirements. Work with FA-8/9 hosting provider to deliver resilient services and data replication.
- Determine requirements for software load balancers and potentially deliver them.
- Develop VMware snapshot services to support the software release process (rollback of failed updates).
- Develop and implement the necessary system services to support User A&A, SSO, RBAC and ABE. Deliver and configure RBAC and ABE. Work with external bodies to deliver an integrated service with Government Gateway and other systems.
- Design and deploy the various VLAN templates. Configure VMware VLAN networking.
- Administer the virtual Firewalls and work with FA-8/9 hosting provider to deliver required network connectivity.
- Design, deploy and configure the chosen system management tools (TBC) to manage and monitor the domain.
- Implement and enhance the change management, configuration management and release management processes.
- Design and build the various Linux VMware Servers and templates.
- Design and build the various Windows 2008 R2 VMware Servers and templates.
- Design and build the Oracle 12c Container Database VMware Servers on Oracle Enterprise Linux.
- Design and build the SQL Server database VMware Servers and templates.
- Create and manage the documentation sets.
- Design and implement virtualization solutions based on best practices to support both data center and distributed server infrastructures and desktop environments.
- Manage implementation of virtualization projects, from both technical and communication aspects.
- Provide architectural expertise, direction, and guidance to team members. Design and deploy automation/workflow solutions in collaboration with Developers, QA Engineers, Release Managers, Deployment Managers, Project Managers and Operations staff.
- Oversee planning, design, implementation, and operation of virtualization infrastructure projects and participate in the specification of business requirements and implementation plans for technically advanced internetworking solutions.
- Develop complete virtualization solutions taking into account infrastructure, data protection, high availability, resource management, automation, disaster recovery, and application requirements.
- Develop automation for VM creation, configuration, and provisioning.
- Documents the current and future solutions. Provides a consistent framework for business solutions.
