Description

Specification, design and development of new and enhanced functionality, system interfaces and user interfaces to an existing health research system as well as second/third line support of the systems and networks. This may be undertaken in conjunction with a company contracted to perform Application Development, Support and Maintenance Services. Must be prepared to work abroad (Doha, Qatar) as the default work location (all expenses paid). Must be educated to degree level in a relevant area or have equivalent experience.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Considerable experience of IT system development - particularly for the Microsoft platform;
  • Experience of Microsoft operating and development environments including:
    • Windows 2008 Server
    • Visual C#
    • .Net Framework
    • VBA
    • SQL Server
    • HTML
    • JavaScript
    • Experience of Dev Express development tools;
    • Understanding of complex data management;
    • Use of iterative development methods working closely with users;
    • Experience of working in small development teams across the full application development life cycle;
    • Experience of specifying, supervising and undertaking risk-based testing;
    • Experience of working within ISO9001 and ISO27001 environments.

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of laboratory or clinical systems (eg LIMS);
  • Experience of Real Time data capture from third party devices connected to a system.

  • Design, development, testing and implementation skills related to the Microsoft technologies listed under "Essential Knowledge and Experience" above;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Analytical and able to resolve problems including the root cause of system incidents;

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks

Main duties will include:

  • Enhancement of the existing prototype IT system, leading to use of the system for full production operations;
  • Implement IT system changes as needed;
  • Integration of new COTS or tailored packages into the IT system(s) as required. eg  a patient recruitment module, laboratory information management system and image storage and retrieval systems;
  • Identifying and resolving errors and providing third line support for the system and networks.
  • Undertaking and/or supporting functional and non-functional testing of system fixes, changes and enhancements;
  • Creating and maintaining test systems and harnesses;
  • Providing advice and support to the Operations team;
  • Creating and maintaining the system documentation.

General duties will include:

  • Participate proactively in the continuous improvement of the organisation's system(s) and associated services;
  • Develop effective, robust and appropriately documented operating procedures (automated where appropriate);
  • Contribute to the smooth handover of the IT systems and procedures to subsequent provider(s) as and when required;
  • Comply with relevant organizational policies, such as Financial Regulations, Equal Opportunities Policy, Promoting Race Equality Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Information Systems Security Policy and Intellectual Property Rights and Register of Interests Policies.
