Description
Proteus Europe operating as an employment agency, is currently seeking a talented and experienced designer, fluent in Autodesk Inventor, which we use primarily to plan and design projection light paths, then to incorporate these into displays which requires an ability to design complex screen shapes and associated mechanical structures.The job involves three main working areas:
1 Producing working designs, production drawings and documentation;
2 Producing designs and renderings to support our sales and bidding efforts;
3 R&D, at all levels. Currently we are in a significant practical phase, further developing some successful solutions into products by producing drawings, manufacturing design detail and marketing collateral. The post is a permanent one based in our modern Bedford facilities. Salary and benefits are offered according to qualification and experience.

The selected candidate will have a successful career to date, demonstrating skills and experience that either apply immediately to our specialisms or can be easily translated from their existing skillset.
Desirable Skills:
Mechanical Design & Engineering
Competent with the design of low-volume structural framework, sheet metal and machined parts, joint design and finishing Experience of plastics and adhesives
Able to produce detail design drawings and work instructions within a managed BOM Experienced with engineering standards & H&S compliance Able to process data and perform basic calculations
Software Competence
Highly proficient with 3D parametric CAD packages. (Inventor with iLogic, occasional Solidworks and AutoCAD). CAD customisation skills bring a significant advantage.
Able to produce renderings and walk-through animations for marketing literature and presentations (Rhino 3D is used) Able to operate MS Excel and other MS Office products
Manufacturing Liaison
Experienced with general metalwork manufacturing processes such as milling, turning, sheet-metal and welding Familiar with plastic fabrications, rapid prototyping and thermoforming
Experienced with manufacturing liaison and supplier quality control
System Design
Experience of OEM equipment selection and integration
Experience of interfacing to a multidisciplinary team
Experience of optical products is highly desirable (projectors and lenses in particular)
Project Engineering
Able to self-manage by producing and delivering to own plans for specification, resource and schedule Capable of presenting to senior staff and clients in project reviews
Able to liaise with manufacturers and workshop staff
