Axica Recruitment is currently looking for a Senior Database Administrator to work a 6 month contract with an end user in Toronto.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing DB2 upgrade from V9 to V10, impact analysis, and tests planning.
- Providing performance analysis and tuning on DB2 V10 databases, including tables/indices and queries.
- Performing IMS DB V12 Database administration.
- Participating in the review of the artefacts - Use Cases, System Requirements Specifications, etc.
- Preparing physical data model from logical data model in PowerDesigner and generating Oracle DDL using PowerDesigner.
- Providing database space calculations for the supported database environments.
- Performing reference data administration, as required.
- Planning and co-ordinating implementation with developers, UNIX and .NET application supports, and other Data Management staff.
- Ensuring database objects conform to standards; data is shared across Road User Safety (RUS), and is the single point of responsibility for the development and maintenance of the databases.
- Designing and writing data conversion scripts and stored procedures to load data from source systems to database.
- Defining/revising data mapping, as required.
- Building and testing database backup/recovery scripts.
- Delivering detailed system design documents and any other supporting documentation conforming to Ministry standards.
- Participating in development, enhancement, and maintenance activities for all applications required by the project.
- Performing database monitoring and performance tuning on database objects and database instance levels.
- Providing post-implementation support.
Skills Required:
- Proven hands-on experience in upgrade and support of current DB2 V10.
- Extensive experience in recovery and integrity checking tools for DB2.
- Knowledge of, and extensive experience with, the following large IMS DB/TM environments:
- IMS HALDB;
- IMS Fast Path;
- IMS Exit routines;
- IBM Cobol, PL/1, and Assembler languages.
- Extensive experience in ensuring the integrity, security, availability, and recoverability of large-scale Mainframe application systems.
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience and skills in large-scale database administration.
- Experience with large-scale database capacity planning, performance tuning, and backup technology.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, the following computing environments:
- Mainframe z/OS environment;
- IMS DB/TM V12, DB2 V10;
- Windows 7, XP, 2008, 2012.
- Knowledge and experience with Security Authorization Facility (SAF) and RACF.
- Proven experience with communications software such as IMS TM, IMS Connect, and DB2 Connect.
- Proven experience resolving complex online Real Time production problems under time constraint.
- Proven experience in large relational database design.
- Experience with project planning and management principles, practices, methods, and techniques.
- Good working knowledge of IBM S/390 technology.
