Description

Senior Electrical Engineer, Hardware

This is a senior level, non-management position. As a key influencer within the hardware engineering team, design and develop large-scale embedded computer systems for automated, medical supply equipment. Manage electrical engineering projects from concept to completion. Work closely with team members in hardware and software engineering, marketing, operations, and quality assurance, to ensure outstanding performance and reliability.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop functional specifications including system and board block diagrams. Create credible cost estimates and program schedules. Participate as a key team member from product conception through manufacturing production.
  • Design embedded computer board schematics. Layout multilayer PCB's, write firmware, incorporate DFM analysis, and verify all through rapid design simulations, and prototyping.
  • Working together with cross functional engineers, lead electrical engineering technical activities by bringing ideas and solutions for the creation of systems, subsystems and components.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Investigate new product concepts and write new product proposals. Analyze electrical requirements to determine design feasibility within aggressive time and cost constraints.
  • Write test plans and guide engineering, and design verification testing (EVT/DVT). Evaluate results, write the test reports, and find solutions for any issues found during testing.
  • Document and release product designs into the company MRP system.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose product issues, and improve designs for cost reduction
Desired Skills and Experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in computer board design.
  • Firmware programming experience for microprocessor based boards.
  • Basic knowledge of signal integrity analysis for PCB implementation including constraints imposed by high speed switching, differential signaling, impedance control, and EMI.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Experience with schematic capture program such as OrCAD or Altium.
  • Ability to travel if required.
  • Demonstrated team player.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • MS or Ph.D. in EE.
  • 5+ years experience designing medical devices.
  • Experience designing high power switching power supply boards.
  • Experience designing computer boards with SMBus and CAN protocol.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements and approval processes including: FCC, UL, CE, and CSA.
  • Experience with PADS, OrCAD, Altium, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Working experience in an ISO environment with FDA regulated experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Agile PLM and understanding of ECR, ECO process.
  • Experience designing embedded computer boards with Microchip microprocessors.
  • Programming familiarity with C, C++, and .NET, for test calls to new devices, drivers and ports.
