Functional Roles & Responsibilities :

The Sourcing Manager/Senior Sourcing Manager is responsible in maximizing the value of third party purchases across a portfolio of goods and services for their assigned categories (Laboratory Supplies and Research Services) .The Sourcing Manager will work closely with global category managers in the execution of global/regional strategies.

In accordance with the defined strategy and as appropriate, this position will:
  • Lead and execute local/regional sourcing projects with cross functional team in alignment with category strategies including: Understanding and influencing sourcing project / business requirements, Define Procurement / Contracting strategy with business and aligned with Category Strategies, Supplier analyses / selection (long/short list, if not predefined by qualified supplier list), RFx and auctions, Bid/tender analysis, Contracting and negotiating plan, Supplier Classification and Relationship Management

  • Develop RFPs for sourcing requirements and negotiate contracts with suppliers

  • As required, manage associated procurement administrative work (such as PO creation/release, signatures, invoice reconciliation, change orders, etc)

  • S upplier/Vendor Relationship Management and contract management (incl. claims and expediting, quality/delivery issues, etc., depending on requirements)

  • Conduct/Facilitate Opportunity Analysis (ROI), Risk Analysis, etc

  • Proactively work with Stakeholders/Customers, assist in or directly manage spending

  • Develop an advanced understanding of category subject matters to include Analyzing Category and Supplier Spend history, trends and forecasts

  • Develop detailed supplier knowledge, market data, including financial performance

  • Establish and manage the Supplier Relationship Management program for assigned suppliers to ensure contract compliance

  • Lead and/or partner with various multifunctional teams on strategic initiatives to include establishing accountability for implementation and tracking of expected outcomes

  • Know, understand and stay abreast of industry trends, benchmarks, best practices, etc

  • Monitor Strategic/key Suppliers (earnings, SEC filings, RSS feeds, Alerts) to provide internal notifications and develop risk mitigation scenarios

  • Analyze past and future demand volumes, inventory trends and current inventory levels

  • Identify opportunities that focus on cost reductions, efficiencies/quality improvements, risk mitigation, industry and supply trends and shifts in technology



The Sourcing Manager will work in conjunction with provide the following to the Global/Regional Category Manager (intersection):
  • Provide input in strategy development including local business requirements

  • Provide input in guidelines, procedures and policies for category spend executed at functional/regional level

  • Review established key performance metrics, measure and track overall performance and compliance to strategies, and develop specific corrective action plans

  • Actively participate as appropriate on the Strategic Sourcing teams providing local/regional category and stakeholder

  • Provide input on key suppliers to provide feedback through a supplier relationship management program


Skill/Education Requirements :
  • Bachelors or Master degree with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, MBA preferred

  • Proficiency and experience with advanced strategic procurement methodologies and sourcing approaches and techniques

  • Highly effective at initiating and leading cross functional teams by building internal and external relationships that create alignment

  • Risk and financial analysis skills and the ability to interpret and utilize key financial data

  • Ability to operate and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and challenging deadlines

  • Process-oriented with strong analytical skills and creative problem solving capabilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the business, markets, regulations in the biopharmaceutical industry

  • Experience of working in international matrix organizations across functions and cultures

  • S trong project management skills, particularly experienced in overcoming resistance to change

  • Willingness to challenge business stakeholder thinking on requirements and track record in demonstrating creativity to find new solutions

  • Experience in driving negotiations with R&D vendors; sound understanding of vendor sales and marketing practices

  • Experience in eSourcing (Ariba) is an advantage

  • Ability to think strategically with good financial acumen

  • Sound communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and manage expectations of senior management, particularly Finance and Research & Operations and strong verbal and written communication skills



Functional/Process Skills & Abilities :
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and control an annual spend program determined by the Global/Regional Category Manager

  • Strong technical knowledge of procurement/sourcing, pharma/biotech industry, category markets, including well developed technical and commercial knowledge of stakeholder business areas supported

  • Demonstrated skills in building strong cross-functional relationships so that the team reaches alignment

  • Demonstrated success in establishing and building successful supplier relationships

  • Demonstrated skill in planning, leading and structuring negotiations

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing risk analysis, total cost analysis and financial modeling

  • Demonstrated change management skills, as well as versatility in responding to change

  • Demonstrated strategic agility with ability to take a process or project into implementation

  • Strong cross-functional relationships so that the team reaches alignment across the network

  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to be able to engage and manage expectations of stakeholders

  • Ability to operate and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and challenging deadlines

  • Skilled in all Procurement process disciplines including spend category management, prioritization and alignment of sourcing opportunities with overall Roche business goals, market and cost analysis, contract negotiations, supplier selection, contract structuring, development and implementation of supplier performance service level agreements/performance metrics, supplier value management, contract benefits capture, and procure-to-pay processes
