Sr. Linux System Administrator

Summary

The selected Linux Systems Administrator will be the primary POC for the data center consolidation and move.  You will provide senior level system administrative support for hardware, OS, Ubuntu and 3rd party utilities for multiple UNIX and Linux environments. You will also be responsible for installation of OS images, configurations, adding of SAN storage, building of file systems and performing the necessary testing of the HW and OS. This position will require working with multiple groups such as Network, Security, Application Development and Architecture. You must be familiar with operational disciplines such as project management, problem management, change management, network/server monitoring, system monitoring and server backups/restores. You must have the ability to analyze complex problems, interprets operational needs, and develops integrated, creative solutions.

You must be able to work independently but also be able to work well as a team member, should show good leadership skills, and have strong time management skills. Must ensure system stability, scalability, security and performance requirements plus implement and maintain security controls on all corporate systems.  

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the proper daily operations of the Linux systems
  • Implement Linux on VM Ware environment
  • Install, maintain and upgrade Linux server hardware and software; Monitor system events to ensure health, maximum system availability and service quality
  • Participate to the backups and restoration of Linux systems using EMC VMax
  • Advanced troubleshooting of emergency situations on the network, must be able to work flexible hours and overtime as required
  • Perform system & application patching and upgrade of equipment firmware
  • Maintain documentation regarding configurations, operations and troubleshooting procedures related to the Linux platform
  • Participate to the definition of standards, guidelines, best practices and metrics as directed
  • Assist in evaluating new requirements, technical design and standards
  • Answer user's query and service requests; Carry out all other related tasks

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Linux systems administration in a 300+ server environment: Expertise in Linux operating systems;
  • Excellent knowledge of Scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of Internet technologies and concepts such as DNS, routing protocols, TCP and UDP and higher level protocols such as HTTP, SMTP and SFTP is important
  • General knowledge of Cisco network equipment, Routers and Switches, and Cisco/Brocade FC switch
  • General knowledge of network data storage technologies (FC switching architecture)
  • Good knowledge of Veritas Netbackup
  • Good knowledge of SAN, NAS
  • Working knowledge of Tomcat
  • RHCE Certification is an asset
  • Linux (RedHat & Suse) Servers in Dev, Cert and Prod environments
  • Knowledge of various services offered in a multi-server environment, such as; Web, Application, SFTP, DB, etc.
  • Knowledge of WebSphere implementation and application deployment.
  • Knowledge of various security implementations; Proxy Servers, Virus Protection, Intrusion Detection and PKI.
  • Skill in developing techniques and methodologies to resolve unprecedented problems or situations
  • Must be a self-starter that requires only limited supervision/guidance; Honesty, integrity and confidentiality must be maintained at all times
  • Be a team player; Have good interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced changing environment; multi-task and prioritize.
  • System Architecture including System Engineering, Design Evaluation and Costing; System Management, including System Installation, Configuration, Administration, Analysis and Maintenance.
  • Performance Management, which includes Analysis, Evaluation, Configuration, Reporting, Administration, Analysis and Maintenance;
  • Problem and/or Change Management system, such as CA Service Desk, or similar product.
