Description

CLOUDANT are looking for engineers to work in our device libraries team.

These libraries are a key part of Cloudant’s strategy of synchronising data between our core scalable hosted database service and the edge of the network.

Our device libraries are a part of our globally distributed data platform, allowing our customers to synchronise data on-demand to and from devices outside the data centre. They will scale from embedded systems to customer desktops, across operating systems.

We’ve proved the concept and now require top-notch developers to help us continue building out this vision.

The role will involve building up from the low-level storage and state-of-the-art data distribution engine to the developer-facing API level, handling the complexities of the lower levels and exposing them to the developer in a way that can be acted on. We'll expect you to understand the complexities and realities of our distributed database platform and help us work to expose them in an accessible way to our customers, thereby driving adoption of our core platform.

An ideal candidate should care deeply about providing easy-to-use bu tefficient low-level libraries for use by developers to create amazing applications. They would also have worked on existing mobile or client-based libraries.

Primary responsibilities

• Working with our globally-distributed client library team to produce libraries on multiple platforms.

Must-haves

• Good working knowledge of one of: C++, Java, Objective-C.
• Experience working with both SQL and NoSQL data stores.
• Developed client, mobile or embedded systems.
• Distributed system experience, particularly using the HTTP protocol.
• Knowledge of build and packaging systems for at least one of the above languages.
• Strong development experience and object-orientated design skills.
• Demonstrable experience of the full software development and release cycle.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience of Cloudant, CouchDB or SQLite.
• Server-side Python or Erlang skills.
• Evidence of open source contributions.
• Distributed team experience.

Notes

• We are initially looking for contracting positions, but will consider permanent positions for the right people.
• Successful applicants will be expected to be able to get to our Bristol offices for on-site work.
