An excellent opportunity has arisen to develop and implement a compliance programme for a leading financial services institution. Focus will be on compliance relating to EMIR, FSMA and related regulatory requirements. In addition, the role will also encompass money laundering, data protection, market abuse, insider dealing, bribery, fraud and other related legislations applicable to financial services firms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and ensuring ongoing compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements in line with the defined controls and procedures;
  • Engendering a culture of compliance and awareness within the employees and providing training to staff and senior management. Monitor and keep records of staff training;
  • Performing account opening review (incl. KYC) for clearing members;
  • Providing compliance advice to Business;
  • Ensuring an adequate reporting mechanism of any non-compliance;
  • Prepare external and internal reports for Senior Management, Board, Audit Committee and Regulators;
  • Conducting regular meetings with the Regulators;
  • Proactively scanning and researching the regulatory environment, keeping the business informed and updated on compliance issues;
  • Completing analysis of regulatory and legislative changes which may impact the business;
  • Investigating any client complaints;
  • Investigating any breaches of rules by clearing members;
  • Monitoring of suspicious transactions and reporting to Regulators and law enforcement authorities.

Required skills/experience:

  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales/or qualification in compliance;
  • A minimum of 3-5 years financial industry related experience in the UK (RIESs, RCHs or regulated firms in the UK);
  • Experience in implementing a compliance programme for a company in the financial services industry;
  • Experience in a compliance role and knowledge of the regulatory and compliance framework in the UK is essential
  • Very good knowledge of financial services legislation (FSMA, Money Laundering regulations, Data protection Act, POCA, PIDA);
  • Knowledge of EMIR would be desirable
  • Ideally at least 36 months PQE, although outstanding candidates with less than this may be considered
  • Trained at a top City firm, with post qualification experience in either the IT/outsourcing/commercial contracts department
  • Prior secondment or in-house experience advantageous but not essential
