IPTV design architect role
The designer role will encompass:
Analyzes requirements and from these, creates functional and technical designs & documentation
Assists in implementation (by video solutions engineers) of these designs
Takes care of capacity and performance planning and writes respective guidelines
Is responsible for the architecture of the IPTV service platform
Provides strategic support towards future platform architecture and services
Assists in troubleshooting outages/disturbances.
Maintains up to date documentation & design set for the platform.
Creates RFPs for the IPTV service platform and advises to management based on the evaluation of the response(s)
Is responsible for the CAPEX cost model for the IPTV service platform and services
Works with the team of design engineers where it pertains to platform architecture and design discussions and decisions
In order to perform those tasks, the designer possesses the following skills/qualifications:
Result oriented
Strong analytic/problem solving skills
Relevant 3rd level qualification (eg computer science, electrical engineering)
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, demonstrable strong documentation skills & affinity
Knowledgeable in major technical disciplines necessary for the end-to-end system design, analysis, integration, and testing of various digital video broadcast and delivery systems
Deep understanding of set-top box hardware and software, Middleware, conditional access, digital rights management, and encryption
Solid understanding of IT systems and systems integration
Extensive background in Internet related protocols and applications including TCP/IP, Radius, DNS, HTTP/SSL, HLS, RTSP, RSP & IGMP.
Network design experience in a multi-protocol, multi-vendor environment.
Working knowledge of linux (redhat) and Microsoft (server 2008) operating systems
Working programming and Scripting knowledge
Strong motivation with the ability to work both independently and in a (multi) team environment
Strong knowledge of Unix and networking
Knowledge of Perl, Java, C programming an advantage
Excellent Troubleshooting skills - logical and systematic approach to problem solving
Experience in the following is desired for the position:
6+ years industry experience and expertise in IP Networking, Unix systems
3+ years relevant design experience, ideally in IPTV
Experience in Direct Broadcast Satellite, CATV a prerequisite and in particular IPTV deployments highly desirable
Knowledge and familiarity of any of eircom's vendor solutions an advantage (Seachange Adrenalin Middleware, Netgem STB, Agama analyzers, Ericsson headend equipment)
Experience in Ericsson headend equipment desirable (encoders, IRD, nCompass etc)
Experience in MPEG TS profiles and in particular in IPTV environments
