Education:  B.S. or M.S. Degree in Computer Science; or Electrical, Computer, or Telecom Engineering

Skills Required

  • Comprehensive subject matter expertise in voice and data communications networking, TDM   (Time Division Multiplex) and MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) networks
  • IP (Internet Protocol) Router, IP switch and security appliance configuration, installation,
  • operation and maintenance. 
  • Troubleshooting application and network performance issues. 
  • Routing protocol configuration and optimization.
  • Configuration and management of network security appliances including Firewalls, IDS  (intrusion detection systems) and IPS (intrusion protection systems).
  • Engineering, design, configuration, and testing for IT Network Transport services and equipment.
  • Expertise required with Alcatel-Lucent 5620 NM (Network Manager) and 5620 SAM (Service Aware Manager) network management platforms. 
  • Configuration and operation of Alcatel-Lucent equipment to include channel banks, DACS (Digital Access Cross Connect System), SAR (Service Access Router) equipment, SR (Service Router) as well as IP switching and routing equipment from other vendors. 

Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years working with networks and telecommunications engineering
  • 5+ years doing hands-on engineering drawings
  • 5+ years full life cycle implementation
  • Advanced skills in testing
  • Change management skills
  • Supervisory skills
  • Good interpersonal communications skills
  • Advanced skills in Visio
  • Advanced skills in Excel

Preferred (licenses/certifications):

  • Alcatel-Lucent Network Routing Specialist (NRS 1)
  • Alcatel-Lucent Network Routing  Specialist II (NRS II)
  • Alcatel-Lucent Triple Play Routing Professional (3RP) Certification
  • Alcatel-Lucent Service Routing Architect (SRA), MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CNE

Job Responsibilities

Candidate will be responsible for delivering the highest possible quality and reliability of network and communications services for railroad operations in the most cost-effective way. 
Principal duties include but not restricted to: 

  • Design engineering, implementation, operation and maintenance activities over the IT Network Transport infrastructure.
  • Participating as a team member in projects that require equipment upgrades. 
  • Configuration and management of network security devices.
  • Must be available to travel 0-5 days per month.
  • Must be available to handle on-call duties when required.
