Job Description
Fog Creek is looking for someone who can make the Trello iOS app better. Whatever that may entail: implementing new features, working with our designers to smooth out rough interactions, adding routes to the server's REST API — we're looking for a sharp developer with experience writing, polishing, and shipping iOS apps, who won't balk at a new challenge.

As a member of the Trello team, you will be consistently releasing new versions of an app used by over two hundred thousand people each month (and growing!). We're looking for self-motivated developers who learn quickly, manage their time well, and don't put Skittles in the M&M jar.

That's not a metaphor. It was a big problem at our office a few months ago.

If you understand how to avoid retain cycles, can speak passionately about storyboards vs nibs, and can list the required methods of the UITableViewDataSource protocol in your sleep, you should think about applying. Whether you're a professional mobile developer or just like to write apps in your spare time, Fog Creek is a great place to further your development.

Skills & Requirements
  • You're writing iOS apps because that's what you love to do, not because it's all you know.
  • You've found at least 90 bugs in UITableView, but managed to work around all of them.
  • You're comfortable manually managing memory in Objective-C, even if you use ARC to save time.
  • You're located anywhere, but your work hours can overlap at least 4 hours with a New York 9-5 schedule.
  • You have an excellent command of written and spoken English.

  • About the Trello team:
  • There are only two iOS developers right now, and the full Trello team is barely more than a dozen people
  • We have a big codebase, and we're looking for a fast learner who can write solid code from day one.
  • Our developers run the show. Management only exists to make their jobs easier.
  • The Trello app is written entirely in Objective-C. We use interface builder where appropriate.
  • Our offices are in New York City (but you don't have to be).

  • About Fog Creek Software:
Fog Creek is a small, entrepreneurial software company in New York City founded in 2000. Our key products are FogBugz, Kiln, Trello, WebPutty and Copilot; all have been very successful. We bootstrapped ourselves without outside investment and have been profitable from the beginning.

Here are some things we believe in:
  • No command-and-control management: You set your own path. Define your own goals. Grow your skills in a way that satisfies you (while still achieving team objectives, of course). Through it all, management is here to support, not dictate.
  • Treat the customer right: We always do right by our paying customers. For instance, if they aren’t satisfied for any reason, we give them their money back, even if similar companies don’t. This ethic permeates all we do, from customer support to sales to the way we design our products.
  • Respect the flow: Every creative thinker knows the value of being “in the flow.” At Fog Creek, you will get an office with a door that closes. If you are in the flow and don’t want to be interrupted, we get that, and you won’t be.
  • We really mean collaboration: Ever had the experience of throwing your designs over “The Wall” and then watching it disintegrate? Fog Creek takes collaboration seriously. You will work one-on-one with hyper-talented developers and escort every last detail of your designs through to release.

  • About Working Remotely:
All of Fog Creek's technical teams are geographically distributed. Every meeting takes place online (using chatrooms and Google Hangouts), and almost all of our work-related communication takes place on the Internet. That means that you can work from almost anywhere in the world, provided:
  • You have access to broadband, stable, low-latency Internet, suitable for videoconferencing
  • You have a dedicated, quiet place to work
  • Your workday overlaps New York afternoons GMT)
  • We have a way to pay you legally wherever you live
