Our long term Telecommunications (wholesale) partner is seeking an SQL DBA who can start within the next two weeks on a 6 month contract basis. There is a strong likelihood this will move into a permanent position.
They are based in Sydney's CBD, close to Wynyard Station.
The ideal candidate will also play a significant role in both operational support and engineering the next generation architecture for the database environment. The DBA will work with all of the Engineering teams to assist in the implementation, management, development and monitoring of the databases that support the company's initiatives. The candidate will also provide support and training to associates in troubleshooting issues.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for architecting and implementing database solutions that provide availability, scalability, performance, recoverability, and security.
- Work to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
- Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
- Implement an automated database replication scheme.
- Clean the database to meet the minimal Microsoft replication criteria.
- Responsible for providing metrics, trend analysis, and recommendations to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
- Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving SQL development issues.
- Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
- Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timelines and costs.
- Responsible for consistently developing, implementing, and following standard operational procedures to provide standardization and stability to the environment and processes.
Experience and Skills:
- 5+ years of SQL Server Database Administration experience required, including 2005 and 2008.
- Experience with Microsoft Clustering strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Storage Area Networking (Performance Tuning, Identifying hotspots, Cloning and Snapshots)
- Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
- Experience with architecting, writing and debugging T-SQL, DTS, SSIS and stored procedures.
- Practical experience in managing internal and external database security
- Strong knowledge of Disaster Recovery and Multi-Instance implementations and methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver projects
- Experience with Replication processes.
- Knowledgeable when it came to database security issues.
- Performance tuning, backup and restore activities.
- Telecoms background will be a distinct advantage, especially exposure to billing / billings platform.
