Description

Purpose of Role Our clients drop on demand printhead technology is based on piezoelectric actuator technology. Our client is looking to extend its mechanical design capability in Fluid Path Engineering. The purpose of this role is to provide robust innovative solutions to the design of fluids functional systems in the new Thin Film Piezo printhead technology.

Key Accountabilities Contribution of mechanical design expertise to the new product development (NPD) process from architecture and concept definition through to detailed modelling, design and product qualification from concept to prototype to production, specifically in the development of inkjet delivery and supply systems. Accurate understanding of product requirements and the system architecture; Generation of detailed specifications for design of subsystems and components;

Optimisation of design trade-offs and creation of solutions for - Functionality and performance in the specified applications; - Fluidic, thermal and electrical integration; - Robustness, reliability and durability; - Manufacturability, testability and yielded unit cost; - Ease of integration in end-use systems; - Installability, usability, maintainability and serviceability - Optimal choice of materials and manufacturing methods;

Participation in cross functional design reviews (including FMEAs); Timely release of complete design information for prototype manufacture. Delivery of high quality design documentation and reports that are version controlled, accurate, well presented and sufficient for project needs. Hands-on involvement (with test engineering colleagues) in design verification testing and validation testing; Meeting challenging project deadlines without compromising design quality. Contribution to the knowledge, best practices and design standards in the Fluid Path Team.

Person Specification The Mechanical Design Engineer will have up to date knowledge and a high level of skill in Fundamentals of mechanical engineering, including - Mathematics and statistics; - Tolerance, stress and thermal analysis. - Design and tooling of mechanical components to be manufactured using techniques such as injection moulding, metal casting, extrusion and machining; - Design and process FMEA; - Modern materials and associated manufacturing methods; - Design for thermal management of subsystems and components; - Mechanical modelling and design tools

The Mechanical Design Engineer will also: - Possess excellent analytical and problem solving abilities - Be confident leader, able to provide excellent guidance to other engineers and technicians - Have excellent verbal and written communication skills - Be detail and quality conscious with a sharp focus on schedule and delivery - Have a methodical and systematic approach to work and project management - Be a proactive and effective multi-tasker - Have excellent interpersonal and cross-functional team working skills.

Qualifications and Experience Qualifications BSc in Mechanical engineering; MSc in Mechanical engineering is desirable

Essential experience 2 to 10 year experience in: - Design of products involving moving parts, custom mechanical components, fluid paths, wiring looms and electronic subsystems; - Successful delivery of the accountabilities described above; - Fabrication methods for both rapid prototyping and mass production. - 3D CAD (Solidworks) Desirable experience - Mechanical engineering design of piezoelectric inkjet printheads - Technical management of external design services partners
