Main Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
Take responsibility for designing and developing new Databases
Write data base queries (in SQL) and write SQL to populate database tables
Participate in the design of a new important Software as a Service (SaaS)
Deploy and provide support to databases in the SaaS
Produce reasonable estimates for tasks and meeting project schedules
Skills & Experience Required:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience
Third level degree in computer science or computer engineering or equivalent
Strong Experience of PostreSQL on Linux
Expertise in SQL
Track record of designing scalable database solutions (>100 Gb database with tables of >10million rows.)
Experience running a production PostgreSQL database including upgrade, installation, replication and security
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Advantageous but not required:
Proficiency in Java or other in programming languages such as Ruby would be an advantage but not required
Knowledge of other relational database systems especially MySQL and possibly Infobright or InfiniDB or Vectorwise would be an advantage but is not required
Knowledge of NoSQL databases such as Cassandra or Mongo; Some knowledge of Hadoop. These are not expected but would be an advantage. There will be opportunities to work with such databases.
