MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES

* Manages and coordinates the activities used to manufacture ophthalmic medical products.
* Responsible for product cost, quality and supply.
* Provides leadership to areas through establishment of a long range vision, plans, objectives and develops an environment to achieve them.
* Accountable for compliance with production procedures, manufacturing specifications and regulatory requirements, including the calibration and preventative maintenance programs.
* Reviews production operations, establishes cost reduction and quality/productivity improvement plans and manages implementation. Manages engineering priorities and projects to achieve objectives.
* Provides adequate resources and training to ensure departmental objectives are accomplished.
* Directs activities to ensure new products are efficiently transferred into manufacturing.
* Ensures adherence to the Company safety policies and procedures.
* Provides employee development opportunities through coaching, delegating and cross-training. Responsible for managing morale within area of responsibility.
* Develops and manages department budgets based on forecasted build plan as well as capital budgets.
* Leads major business projects as required to achieve corporate objectives.

EDUCATION & TRAINING
* A Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) is required, engineering focus preferred.

EXPERIENCE
* 15 years experience in the medical device field in a manufacturing environment.
* Demonstrated experience transferring new products/processes from R&D to manufacturing.
* Demonstrated ability to propose and implement process/productivity improvements.
* Experience preparing departmental budgets and capital budgets.

SKILLS
* Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to practically implement, cGMP/QSR/ISO requirements.
* Excellent team building and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent prioritization and organization skills with strong achievement of objectives.
* Strong experience in lean manufacturing and six sigma preferred.
