WebSphere Application Server Consultant/WAS Administrator/MQ Build Specialist, Hampshire

Our client a Software Consultancy company require the services of a WebSphere Application Server Consultant based in Basingstoke, Hampshire with some travel to Paddington in London. The WAS/MQ Build Specialist will be expected to adopt a consultative approach with Middleware Engineering and across other departments as to best practice in the design and implementation of new services.

Essential skills:

  • Commercial IT exposure in a large systems (150+) Server environment
  • Significant working knowledge with the following WebSphere skills is required for the role:
    • Solid experience of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment (WAS ND) with in-depth technical knowledge of V7.0 and preferably V8.5
    • IBM HTTP Server (IHS)
    • Installation, patching, configuring, problem determination
    • Keystore management – CSR, importing, receiving etc
    • ISA, AST, working with IBM on PMRs etc
    • JDK 1.5 and J2EE 1.4.x or above
    • Scripting with Jython and Unix Shell
    • Solid experience of WebSphere MQ (WMQ) with in-depth technical knowledge of v7.0, v7.5.x
    • Installation, patching, configuring, problem determination.
    • In depth knowledge of MQSC scripting, MQ clustering and Publish/Subscriber techniques
    • Knowledge on MQ in an HACMP environment, MQ API and MQ multi instance setup.
    • Good understanding and use of MQ Exits
    • Should be familiar with SSL protocol, key exchange (public and private), digital signatures, cryptographic algorithms, and certificate authorities.
  • Basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, host file, Virtual Hosts and HTTP traffic)
  • Practical experience of other Middleware technologies
  • UNIX administration skills on AIX, Solaris would be advantageous
  • Problem diagnosis and resolutions skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite
  • Familiarisation with ITIL principles and preferably ISEB accredited
  • Experience of problem and change control management processes including use of applications such as Remedy and Quality Center
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable skills:

  • The following experience would be beneficial:
    • Knowledge of SiteMinder and LDAP
    • DataPower XI50 appliance
    • Be familiar with XML, XML Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT), XPath, and XML Schema Definition (XSD) SOAP and Web Services.
    • Tivoli Monitoring (ITM)/ITCAM
    • HACMP, MQ Cluster, MQ API Exits
    • HTTP/HTTPS, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
    • XML language
