Wintel Technical Design Consultant - Windows, AD, VMWare, Citrix, SCCM, Exchange is required by my client who is based in Peterborough.

Essential Technical Skills:

  • At least 3 years in depth knowledge and design experience in a similarly scaled environment, you will also need to have 3rd/4th line problem solving experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of designing, maintaining and fixing Windows 2012, 2008, and 2003
  • Knowledge and expertise in technologies such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
  • A working knowledge of the LAN and WAN technologies and protocols
  • A sound knowledge of virtual server technologies including VMware and Hyper-V
  • Experience of Thin Client desktop and application delivery, primarily using Citrix products (Xenapp and Xendesktop)
  • Knowledge of backup technologies with specific knowledge in at least one product
  • Knowledge of anti-virus technologies with specific knowledge in at least one product
  • Knowledge of software deployment technologies including SCCM and APP-V
  • Excellent knowledge of system hardware platforms including HP/Dell/IBM
  • Knowledge of MS Exchange messaging systems
  • Design & Support experience of advanced Windows based technologies eg Clustering/DFS/WLB
  • Experience of designing and carrying out server builds, upgrades and associated documentation
  • System security/Server hardening

  • Able to work to agreed standards and practices
  • Is able to identify broken process and draft solutions

  • Able to produce high quality documentation in agreed format

Highly Desirable:

  • MCSA/MCSE
  • ITIL qualification
  • Experience of storage systems  (SAN/NAS)
  • Scripting skills
  • Unix and/or Linux skills

Outputs Required:

  • Designing solutions to address customer requirements, working closely with the Solutions Architect to drive solutions forward.
  • Action, update and resolve logged support incidents in line with SLA commitments
  • Participate in a rota for out-of-hours support may be called upon
  • Contribute towards the development of the service and deploy approved system changes
  • Produce and update implementation and support documentation
  • Produce the frame work for reports as required and hand them over to the BAU team to produce on a regular basis
  • Occasional Management and administration of backup systems
  • Provide support for Business Continuity activities
  • Uphold the organisations values, methods, and policies
