Economic Modeller is required by a leading Financial Services organisation based in London. They are a major regulatory body and this sits within the team set up to undertake the analysis on the proposed cap on the cost of high-cost, short-term credit, due to a resent Act that has been set. The Key purpose of this job is to build a model to analyse profitability in the market, at a loan and customer level. This model will be used to analyse the impact on firms decisions, and the likely effect on competition in the market as a result of different structures and levels of price cap.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with project manager, demand-side analyst and staff, you will be responsible for building the supply side model.
  • Be responsible for appropriate modifications to the model to analyse potential scenarios in the competitive outcome.
  • Manage and quality assure a team of data analysts in cleaning, preparing and merging data from individuals firms, to ensure consistency and suitability for modelling.
  • Working with demand side analytical team to ensure that supply side model provides necessary outputs
  • Conducting analysis of data using appropriate analytical techniques
  • Preparing and presenting materials summarising the model, its inputs, processes, assumptions and main outputs, including developing a detailed guide to the model and presentations to senior staff as required.

Experience:

  • A postgraduate qualification in economics or a related discipline OR an undergraduate degree in economics with relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of at least one statistical software packages such as SAS, SPSS, Matlab or Stata essential. Working knowledge of the others, desirable.
  • Experience in cleaning, merging and analysing large datasets (>70 million data points) essential, demonstrated through relevant previous employment.
  • Experience of profitability analysis (ideally at the individual loan level) essential. Experience of competition analysis and cost-benefit analysis highly desirable.
  • Experience in consumer credit, and especially the pay day loan sector or credit scoring processes, desirable.
