Currently seeking several SC cleared Desktop engineers, to be based in Telford, however travel will also required; on a 12 month contract to be confirmed by the client.

Due to the nature of the role and the time scale and requirements issued by the client, candidates have been asked to hold current SC level security clearance for this role.

Project Overview:

The Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) programme is replacing numerous individual information systems throughout the MOD with a single more efficient and integrated information infrastructure.

It is the biggest single infrastructure project to date rolled-out in Europe and will provide full operational capability for 300,000 users on around 150,000 terminals across approximately 2,000 MOD sites worldwide.  This will be implemented across Fixed sites (UK and abroad) and Deployed environments (Land and Maritime).

It will include Local Area Networks (LAN), Servers, Workstations, Printers and associated software as well as messaging and core IS tool-sets. The scope does not embrace Wide Area Network services or Business Applications but DII will be responsible for deploying these.

The ATLAS Consortium was formed in March 2005 with the objective to deliver the Defence Information Infrastructure Future DII(F) contract.

The Consortium comprises of four Partner companies and each Partner has extensive experience and knowledge of major technology implementation programmes in both the public and private sectors. In addition they have a broad experience of working in long-term partnerships with the MOD and in many instances, with each other to deliver highly complex military and public sector programmes.

Each Partner has dedicated Defence business units with direct involvement in many of the existing business-space and Battlespace systems that will be supported and/or interface with systems running on DII(F).

Job Description:

  • Validate and solution migration requirements within CLAM for each Element.
  • Produce MEP sections from CLAM as per the current forecast file.
  • Produce ATLAS base lined Element solution user and peripheral designs (MEPs) in line with the Migration schedule. Roles are to determine the requirements of an element and determine a solution in conjunction with the DII/f policies in order to bring an element to readiness and to enable ATLAS to complete the installation according to the forecast. This includes administration of the Requirements for Migration Tool (CLAM)

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend validation and start-up meeting, deliver presentation where required and assist on day 1 of data capture;
  • Validation of Work Order as per project Work Instructions
  • Update CLAM with all existing data captured at the validation visit;
  • Resolve CLAM errors and warnings before documentation is distributed;
  • Manage the production of documentation Solutions based on the signed off requirements from the customer in accordance with the project schedule;
  • Attend site visits according to the current method and forecast to work through work order errors with the customer;
  • Support the customer in validating Work order data updated with churn change from the customer;
  • Responsible for producing design documentation from CLAM in accordance with the technical solution
  • Communicating all technical design issues to the project Regional Delivery Manager
  • Communicating with MAP, Logistics, Data Migration and Implementation Teams to ensure that the design agrees with all other elements of the Implementation process;
  • Responsible as a resolver group for assisting the Implementation support team with live installation problems;
  • Validation of details of recommended replacements for hardware and software functionality;
  • Assist in the creation/review of new processes.

Essential Skills:

  • Good communications and inter-personal skills, presentation skills, capable of chairing meetings and interfacing with client effectively;
  • Fully mobile with clean driving licence, regular overnight stays to be expected;
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and ability to motivate others;
  • Confidence, drive and ability to lead and work under pressure of time and cost;
  • Security Clearance will be required.
  • Adherence to process/process driven

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in IT rollouts
  • Knowledge of the Defence sector;
  • Appreciation of Prince 2 methodology will be an advantage;
  • Experience of MS Project
  • Understanding of SharePoint or similar application
