The Role
The focus for this role is a BI developer working with the current data warehouse team in place. The right candidate would be an experienced Microsoft data warehouse developer (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS) who can work both independently and as a member of a team to deliver enterprise class data warehouse solutions.
The core responsibility will be the delivery of the end-to-end components of the data warehouse. The development work will include the build and ongoing improvement of core data warehouse system critical to the business strategy as well as change to subsidiary systems related to the provision of data to the business users.
My client is looking for a skilled and motivated individual with a strong background in data warehousing who can work closely with the existing team to successfullydeliver the requirements set out for the remainder of the year.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the scoping and identification of project deliverables
* Detailed solution design and the creation of project-specific documentation such as functional and technical specifications
* Work with business analysis teams to review and refine requirements
* Work with solution architects and technical team to refine designs to deliver effective solutions that meet business requirements
* Provide accurate estimates, challenging requirements where necessary
* Working with the team against a defined backlog; delivering tasks and understanding interdependencies
* Produce deliverables that adhere to the company's development and quality standards (include appropriate testing)
* Be responsible for working with support teams to assist in the identification and resolution of production incidents
* Work closely with test teams to ensure appropriate test cases are defined and there is the appropriate test coverage
Ideally, you will
* Have a database development background majoring in data warehousing
* Have experience of working in cross functional delivery teams
* Have experience of working on large complex business projects
* Have experience of working with integrated solutions
* Have experience of working and delivering in Agile (Scrum/Sprint) projects
* Have experience of the full project life cycle
* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of working with both technical and non-technical individuals within the project and the business
* Be highly results driven, with the energy and determination to succeed in a very fast paced environment
* Be able to demonstrate a commitment to producing quality deliverables
Required skills
* Strong development background with experience in SQL Server 2008 onwards including extensive hands on use
* TSQL (including stored procedures)
* SSIS
* SSAS
* MDX
* Strong knowledge of database design and data warehouse principals and their application in Microsoft SQL Server
* Familiarity with BI reporting toolsets preferably Cognos and ProClarity (ideal but not essential)
* Exposure to data warehouse testing techniques
* Exposure to build practices associated with data warehouses
* Able to produce high quality development deliverables and documentation artefacts
* Appreciation of design patterns and practices that apply to the data warehouse space
* Be able to design solutions to business requirements and articulate these to members of the project team.
