My client is looking to appoint a Chief Engineer with a strong background in electronics, to join its multi-disciplined design and development team. Working on an extremely diverse and ever changing range of projects for high profile customers in the Defence, Aerospace, Nuclear and Offshore industries, the Chief Engineer will be 'hands-on' and therefore needs to have a up to date knowledge of electronic design. The ideal candidate is likely to have 10 or more years' experience in electronic design and development with a creative vision and the ability to innovate, think laterally and creatively to apply their skills and experience to a wider range of applications and challenges. Additionally, the Chief Engineer is expected to provide technical leadership across all engineering disciplines, guiding and mentoring the wider engineering team and will be an active member of the management team. Whilst likely to be degree qualified, a demonstrable technical aptitude, proven track record and ability to integrate into the existing team are more important.

Key Requirements:
Up-to-date electronic design expertise
Track-record of innovation and creative problem solving
First class communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities
Inventive, lateral thinker
Understanding of commercial imperatives

Technical skills including some or all of the following disciplines:
FPGA/VHDL design
Microcontroller design and programming
Embedded software development
DSP systems design and software development
Digital systems integration
Analogue design
High level programming (C++,Windows, DSP, Linux, LabView)

Key Job Functions:
Overall responsibility for electronic design strategy and implementation on most projects Direct/hands-on design input on certain projects, through to completion within agreed timescales and financial budgets.
Liaison with clients, both at the bidding stage and during the project lifetime
Preparation of technical responses on bids and tenders, working with the commercial team to estimate costs, risks and timescales
Preparation of Technical Requirement Specifications from customer requirement documents

Prepared to meet with and present to customers
Able to travel with occasional overnight stays
