Consultant Offshore Drilling Engineer are responsible for performing technical drilling engineering for well design, cost estimates, project planning, operations support and review of rig requirements for drilling, completion, intervention and workovers on the company's rig fleet associated with jack-ups.

Overview:

Drilling engineers work as part of a functional group that support asset teams. The position is responsible for performing technical drilling engineering for well design, updating cost estimates, project planning, operations support and review of rig requirements. This position will be required to participate in field reviews, peer reviews, optimization studies, and gather local operational knowledge/experience. Drilling engineers are expected to apply Capital Stewardship principles, Risk Assessment and Drilling Engineering practices in all well programs, as well as capture and share lessons learned and best practices with the work group and global D&C community.

The work schedule for this Consultant Offshore Drilling Engineer position will be 28 days on/28 days off, with travel time on the consultant's days off.

The company is requiring applicants to agree to stay on assignment for a minimum of 12 months.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
  • Works in a team environment. Interface with Drilling & Completions office and field personnel, asset teams, Third Party services, HES and logistics personnel on daily basis.
  • Focus on all drilling, planning and execution issues, including the development of long lead item lists.
  • Development of the well program and well procedure. Consolidation and preparation of the entire well program package including all approvals and endorsements, and permitting with government entities.
  • Developing cost estimates and scoping of data for alternative well options - consider "life of well issues" (e.g. future workovers, recompletions, sidetracks, abandonment, etc.)
  • Recommend drilling design alternatives (casing design, connectors, hydraulics, bit selection, drilling fluids, cement design, etc)
  • All aspects of drilling program design, development and permitting. Coordinate the gathering of pre-drill data for design criteria; including bottom hole assembly (BHA) data, offset well data, pore pressure, frac gradient, wellbore stability data, etc.
  • Equipment procurement/forecasting
  • Management of contracts for Third Party services
  • Vendor evaluation and selection, as well as work order development for vendors critical to the process
  • Participation in the Company's Project Development and Execution Process (CPDEP) phase gate meetings
  • Drilling Execution - participate on a Rig team to monitor and execute the drilling program
  • Reviews accuracy of daily rig reports
  • Provides engineering and technical support to the Superintendent and Drill Site Manager/Company Man as necessary to execute the drilling program. Reviews rig site specific procedures.
  • Supports and actively participates in Health, Safety and Environment efforts to achieve goal of zero incidents
  • Mentoring of national engineers is a must
  • Managing a process of continuous improvement in well planning


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of five years experience in drilling design and operations experience planning and executing offshore wells (jack-up and swamp barge operations).
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work activities of suppliers, Company's Engineering Technology (ETC), etc (Project Management skills)
  • Demonstrated operational experience in a challenging and remote location.
  • A valid WellCap Well Control Certificate is required. The company will facilitate the renewal process.
  • Applicants must be able to successfully complete the company's IADC-certified Well Control training in order to achieve certification for well control.
