Description

We are an extremely ambitious educational technology startup, based on level 3 of Google Campus London. We are developing software for Early Years Education (children between the age of 0 to 5 years) to help nurseries comply with government regulation and to improve communication with parents and to encourage a fun learning environment at home.

There is a huge market opportunity here, as the current solution is largely paper based, which we are extremely excited about pursuing. We are looking for our first Software Engineer / CTO / Technical Co-Founder (as a startup at the very start we have the luxury of being flexible!) to join us to help bring this vision to life.

We are one of only 6 teams (out of nearly 200 applicants) to have received some seed funding from Emerge Venture Labs (http://www.emergeventurelab.com/). The Emerge team have enabled connections to a stellar list of investors and mentors.

NurseryBook has also received grant funding from the Technology Strategy Board, so we are not just another startup looking for a developer to take a bet on them in exchange only for equity. You can be paid a day rate or a salary and we will also offer a material equity stake in the company.

The Role

At the outset, you will take the technical lead in developing our core tablet based app along with the backend infrastructure, web interface and email automation system. The app includes photo and video capture and handwriting recognition.

This role is available for immediate start.

You will have experience of building at least one non-trivial native Android app or IOS app. The following attributes would also be advantageous:

• dedication to designing and building fantastic user interfaces
• knowledge of photo and video capture and transfer, especially on mobile
• passion for building software to improve children’s outcomes
• experience working with JSON and RESTful APIs
• broad knowledge of different Android devices
• experience with test-driven development
• has knowledge or working with relational databases
• proficiency of at least one other language apart from Java, such as JavaScript or experience developing a mobile backend
