One of our prestigious clients is currently looking to recruit a professional Design Engineer who will undertake the Software/Firmware design elements of designs. It is likely that the job holder will be a graduate engineer, with a minimum of five years' experience and a proven track record of successful product design.This exciting role requires a good working knowledge and understanding of Electronic Hardware, and candidates with a hardware background but a strong software bias, will also be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Working from initial design specifications, the successful candidate will develop and implement the software and firmware elements of new products, working closely with the Hardware and production Engineers. Design involvement occurs at all stages of the product lifecycle, and includes design concept, detailed design, prototyping, generating documentation, assistance to production.
To generate designs which meet agreed specifications and product cost targets and which are completed within agreed timescales.
Support Production Engineering to develop test software to allow efficient production testing.
To liaise with other members of staff and subcontractors about design related matters, as required.
To provide technical expertise to other designers employed by the company, in the area of software design.
To keep abreast of software technology, with a view to current and future company products.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
Software design
-Sound knowledge and experience of designing, writing and testing code for micro-controllers in
Assembler and C.
-Experience of writing micro-controller code which handles real-time communications in a resource limited environment.
-Experience in programming a broad range of processors and controllers including Microchip and
Analog Devices, DSP and FPGA.
-Knowledge of version control systems
-Ability to create design documentation, including requirements, design specifications and test specifications.
-Experience of using Labview, Matlab or Visual Basic.
General Electronic design
" A good overall understanding of electronic circuits, analogue and digital.
" Understanding of hardware design specifications and schematics, to support the design and testing of the associated micro-controller code
" Ability to use test equipment, to support testing of the associated micro-controller code
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
" Linux
" Practical Satellite TV systems.
" Eutelsat DiSEqC protocol
" Experience of designing for consumer electronics
