My client is a major player in the financial industry with offices world-wide. They are looking to take on an eager, passionate and accomplished Senior Windows / Microsoft System engineer to be their in-house expert. You will be a key decision maker and you will take ownership of the linux element of the environment.

They have 4 datacentres across the globe and the team's main duty is the support of the Dublin datacentre. This Windows / Microsoft engineer will be joining a real team environment. You will have a unique opportunity to work in-house on multiple projects, in a multi-vendor environment. You will get exposure to all of these technologies, and as a result you will add in-depth experience across the infrastructure as a whole to your skill set.

This Senior Windows / Microsoft Systems Engineer will have primary responsibility for systems and services on Microsoft platforms. They will be required to act as technical lead for Global Directory Services and Messaging platforms, and to assist the network services team with day to day LAN and WAN support and administration. Additional responsibilities include supporting other technology groups within the company, including development teams, our Servicedesk and Operations team and other IT Infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

- Primary responsibility for managing, implementing and maintaining the global Microsoft estate
- Assist the network team with LAN and WAN administration
- Liaise with third party vendor support on hardware and software issues
- Administer, deploy, document and operate data backup services
- Develop and manage relationships with IT representatives from all company business units
- Develop end user FAQ's and all technical communications, including educating & training technology and business unit staff as required
- Share responsibility for the Data Center change processes such as approval and implementation of new DC infrastructure including monthly reporting
- Support systems engineering efforts associated with product development, architectural design and operational support of new and existing technologies
- Manage global patch approval process
- Design, plan, implement and support our enterprise active directory and messaging platforms including email archiving, e-discovery and e-mail security services
- Manage and support test, development, DR and production deployments of Windows Server operating systems and corresponding services
- Provide architect level guidance on the company's future within the Microsoft product set and manage our global Microsoft relationship
- Meet or exceed requirements for service-level agreements regarding production systems and assigned service-desk incident tickets
- Comply with all standards, procedures and processes related to our technology services
- Candidate will be expected to further develop and maintain their MS accreditation

Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Expert level knowledge and experience of Microsoft product range, specifically Exchange 2010, AD, Server 2008R2 and Lync
- Solid experience with layer 2 & 3 network operations and network technologies (DHCP, DNS, VPN, NAT)
- Solid understanding of storage technologies (Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS)
- Skilled with various Data Centre technologies including VMware, Linux, Multi-Vendor FC SAN & Storage, Microsoft Data Centre Server, Dell/IBM Servers, Commvault Simpana
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent documentation and training skills for knowledge transfer to other team members. Red Hat Linux, Symantec Altiris, Commvault or VMware administration experience an advantage
- Scripting experience in Bash, Powershell or other script languages an advantage
- Proven project management skills and experience
- Familiarity with ITIL V3 as an operational framework desired
