Fantastic opportunity for a Technical Writer in Derby! QA, Agile, DITA

Proteus Europe, operating as an employment agency, is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to work for one of our prestigious client on a permanent basis in Derby.

As a Technical Writer you will be responsible for creating, maintaining and delivering end-user technical documentation, including release notes, installation instructions, configuration guides and operation guides.

Responsibilites:
  • Research, plan, write and produce release notes, installation guides, configuration guides, reference manuals, operation guides, and other end-user documentation.
  • Actively work with local and remote Agile scrum team members and SMEs to gather all pertinent information required to produce effective end-user documentation.
  • Synthesize complex product and usage information into a logical document structure and easy to understand descriptions and procedures.
  • Use a variety technical writing and instructional design techniques to communicate technical information and procedures.
  • Validate all of the technical descriptions and instructions in the documentation through hands-on testing of the hardware and software products.
  • Ensure a consistent use of terms, styles and other department standards within new and existing documents.
  • Organize and manage the reviewing of technical documentation by SMEs.
  • Evaluate and maintain existing end-user documentation.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the quality of the documentation and the efficiency of the documentation group.


Competencies:
  • University diploma and/or relevant experience in documenting high tech products.
  • Knowledge of current technical writing principles and practices (Agile, DITA, online help systems)
  • Solid working knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker, oXygen, WebWorks Publisher, Acrobat, MS Word, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Excellent English writing and oral communication skills.
  • Pragmatic planning, research and writing skills
  • Proven ability to create documentation for new products, as well as maintain legacy documents
  • Solid understanding of the software and hardware development and QA processes (JIRA)
  • Ability to interpret complex design specifications and to independently learn new technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Independent, a self-starter, efficient and a team player
  • Detail-oriented, deadline-driven and goal-focused
  • Resourceful, flexible, creative and able to adapt to changing requirements and priorities
  • Vast Experience in technical writing, documenting software and hardware products.
  • Experience in all phases of document creation, from template design to printed or online help format
  • Practical knowledge of products emerging from the Audio/Video/Broadcasting industry is an asset.
