The UX Designer is responsible for identifying and articulating the needs, goals, and requirements that guide these new features and translating these into workflow and interaction models that form the basis of the overall user experience.  He/she oversees conceptual design, information architecture, interaction design, user-centered design, and usability engineering practices across multiple projects, including web sites, mobile sites, mobile applications, internal products, and other special projects.  The UX Designer articulates and executes best practices and standards for UX within project teams, to product management, to stakeholders. In addition, the UX Designer will work with other team leads to provide a cohesive user experience throughout all of the Interactive platforms.     

SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the direct supervision of the Senior Design Director and within the overall Learning Media team.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Lead the requirements definition and product discovery process for teacher tools, working closely with product manager, internal business stakeholders and functional teams to best achieve business goals as identified by project/division/company constituents.

2.    Define and execute best practices for user-centered design throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating user observation & usability testing, web metrics data, market research, and other qualitative and quantitative information.

3.    Works within a collaborative, Agile environment, and adapts necessary Agile processes.

4.    Create requirements documentation, functional specifications, process maps, wireframes, and other written deliverables that capture and communicate the detailed results of the analysis process.

5.    Develops specific design concepts, page templates, layouts of special packages and interactive modules, and other UX design elements for the Learning Media properties.

6.    Works closely with technical team members to evaluate feasibility and maintainability of designs.

7.    Work with the project team throughout the project lifecycle to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of identified requirements, particularly during quality assurance activities.

8.    Work with Product Managers to define strategy for product development based on user research and end user value analysis.

9.    Employs industry-standard technologies to produce work; is responsible for maintaining professional skill level, including knowledge of industry trends

10.  Performs other duties or special projects as assigned including, but not limited to, participating in concept development, prototyping, design or graphic productions for other the Learning Media projects. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required:

1.    B.A. in Design from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent, or BS/BA degree – MBA or MS/MA in Computer Science, Information Technology, Human Factors or related area is a plus.

2.    Five to seven years of experience in user experience design and information architecture, user analysis and requirements definition for Internet-related and mobile.

3.    Demonstrated experience in user experience design for products serving the K-12 education market. Experience in instructional design is desired but not required.

4.    Demonstrated ability to execute designs based on existing standards and style guides.

5.    Proven skills completing successful work in a dynamic, high-stress environment.

6.    Experience working in Agile, a highly collaborative environment where all team members are invited to provide input to major decisions.

7.    Fluent in all things web-design, including mastery of Adobe Suite, HTML5, CSS3, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility best practices.

8.    Strong familiarity with current techniques and practices of software requirements definition, user-centered design, and usability analysis. Ability to lead requirements elicitation discussions.

9.    Skilled use of flowchart/wireframing and process documentation software (Visio, OmniGraffle, Balsamiq) and standard office applications (Microsoft Office).

10.  Actionable knowledge of the digital media landscape including current education industry and user trends, emerging technologies, and standards.

11.  Familiarity with implementation and ongoing customization of consumer web services, content management systems, and/or other mission-critical business applications.

12.  Ability to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data and present findings and recommendations.

13.  Strong oral and written communication skills, to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences and at all levels of the organization (including senior management).

14.  Ability to effectively and efficiently set priorities and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

15.  Demonstrated ability to work well independently or on a team, always showing respect for the diverse constituencies and within the public media system. Ability to engender trust and establish actionable consensus among these constituencies.

16.  Understanding of the creative process in a collaborative environment; ability to incorporate both stakeholder/user feedback and design critiques.
