Front End Developer (remote work possible)

Digital First Media, a leading news and information company, is seeking a mid­-level front­end developer to join its growing development team. He or she will be working closely with our UX design team to build innovative products and platforms that delight our audiences. We are based in NYC but welcome exceptional remote applicants who have prior experience working in distributed companies.

The ideal candidate is passionate about superb HTML/CSS/JS/SVG/PNG — every technology supported by modern browsers. Our team’s focus is primarily content delivery and presentation, as well as creating the tools to support multiple content production teams. We think mobile first, and position our design and development efforts accordingly.

We’re a small shop of about 50 journalists that is rapidly expanding its technical capacity over the next year. It’s a fun, fast­paced, and collaborative startup environment full of smart, motivated people who are serious about digital content.

All projects are team­based and employ Agile methodology. You'll be working closely with designers, other developers and product owners. The ability to juggle multiple projects of varying magnitude, clean coding practices and strong organizational skills are all part of the job.

Qualifications:

Well­structured, semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that can scale as our projects
grow.

Always keeping an eye to browser performance and compatibility.

Opinions on SASS vs. LESS, and Backbone vs. Ember vs. Angular.

Confidence in picking the right tool for the job, and getting code shipped.

Proven ability to communicate your progress, blockers you’ve run into, and what you think a given product needs to be world­class.

Willingness to push yourself, learn — and help the rest of the team grow too.

Bonus Points:

Experience in pushing WordPress far beyond its roots as a blogging platform.

Interest in design and user experience.

Proficiency in getting unit test and Selenium coverage for your JavaScript.

Comfortable following Agile methodology.
