Description

We are currently looking for two electronics engineers for one of our prestigious clients working in the Space industry. The role is as follows:

Work with project teams to design electronics and electrical interfaces compliant with
ECSS and space agency defined standards
Demonstrate expertise in electronic engineering for spacecraft systems and space agency requirements
Test and characterise development model electronics and lead the development to take this forward to qualification and flight model standards
Co-ordinate test campaigns for the detector subsystem
Interface with the Euclid-VIS Project Manager and System Engineer to report progress and plan future work
Support team meetings and present work at Euclid consortium meetings
Generate and update documentation including design reports and justifications, test plans, procedures and test reports. The post holder will also be responsible for conducting analyses.
Support the project's detector scientist with the provision of laboratory electronics for
CCD characterisation
Develop expertise in the FPGA verification techniques expected by Space Agencies
Contribute to user guides and design review documentation

Knowledge:

Essential: Expertise in the design, analysis & test of low noise analogue signal processing electronic circuitry
Essential: Expertise in the design of digital electronics circuitry and systems including serial data communications
Desirable: Expertise in the design of FPGAs including the use of high level languages and CAE design tools
Desirable: Familiarity with electronics for space instrumentation

Qualifications

Essential: First degree in electronic engineering or equivalent
Desirable: Previous training in FPGA design and verification
Desirable: Post-graduate qualification in electrical engineering or related subject

Skills

Essential: Excellent written and oral communications skills, including technical writing
(working language is English)
Essential: Proficiency with common computer operating systems and MS Office applications
Essential: Ability to efficiently design digital & analogue circuitry at the schematic capture level using electronic components selected for optimum performance

Aptitude

Essential: Good interpersonal abilities and proven capability to work within a multi- disciplinary team.
Essential: A proven ability to prioritise workloads, manage time effectively and meet strict deadlines
Essential Ability to efficiently learn to use new design tools

Previous experience

Essential: Proven ability to design mixed signal electronics systems involving low noise analogue processing and serial data communications
Essential: Previous experience with testing analogue electronics
Desirable: Previous experience with electronics to drive CCD image sensors
Desirable: Previous work in scientific research in a relevant discipline
Desirable: Previous experience in working within large teams either in a leadership role or as a team member

Special working conditions

The instruments developed are nearly always within collaborations with other UK or overseas research groups. The post holder will be required to travel to various European or world-wide consortium institutes to support progress meetings and integration and test exercises. The post holder may occasionally be required to work out of hours.
