A premier government department in Canberra seeks the services of a Server Specialist who will

  • In conjunction with standard operating environment(SOE) manages, prioritise, analyse and complete tasks according to project schedules.
  • Assist with hardware and software configuration within the Departments SOE.
  • Implement changes to departmental systems SOE strictly in accordance with departmental change control procedures.
  • Ensure that the tasks and progressive action history are duly recorded and concluded to the client's satisfaction.
  • Participate fully in the project management process and endeavour to achieve client outcomes in the most effective way.
  • Maintain data and office security and system integrity in accordance with Departmental Security Instructions.
  • As required, provide advice for SOE Lifecycle management of the SATIN infrastructure.
  • Skills Required

    • Knowledge and experience developing and supporting the software products used within the DFAT Standard Operating Environment (SOE).
    • Listed below are the major skill categories with their associated key products. In each category, it is assumed that the applicant has a strong understanding of these technologies and how they can be applied across a network:
    • Server hardware and management software
    • Microsoft Windows 2003, 2008 and/or 2012 Server, Active Directory and related management products
    • Infrastructure Management (responsible for the management of the software SOE across the DFAT network)
    • MS SQL including Clustered configurations
    • SharePoint
    • Microsoft System Centre Suite including: SCCM and SCOM
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • Lotus Domino Server/Lotus Notes Client
    • VMware suite including: ESX, vSphere and View
    • Knowledge and experience with TCP/IP especially DNS, DHCP and WDS.
    • Extensive knowledge and experience with the management of Dell fault-tolerant network Servers in a VMware ESX and Microsoft Windows Server environment.

    Australian Citizenship and Negative Vetting 2 is required.

    The contract period is May 2014 to April 2015 with extension possibilities of further 24 months.
