Database Administrator with excellent MS SQL skills and expert T-SQL experience required to join a leading organisation in the Bristol/Bath area as a permanent employee. The successful candidate will be articulate, well-presented and will ideally have experience and tolerance for teaching and developing more junior personnel.
Key responsibilities include
- Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security;
- Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users;
- Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline;
- Considering both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users;
- Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model;
- Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements;
- Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS;
- Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act;
- Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
- Controlling access permissions and privileges;
- Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;
- Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
- Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers;
- Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
- Commissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
- Must have good analytical, conceptual and root cause analysis skills.
- Expert level report developer, using SSRS and SSAS
- Ability to work with business users on requirements, develop appropriate specifications and build reporting solutions
Education and Experience:
- Extensive MS SQL Server Skills
- An adept scripter (T-SQL and Powershell)
- Experienced and capable Database Administrator
- Strong MS T-SQL, Nagios, PHP, Perl and Powershell skills
- Experience with customizations to the user interface, performance tuning, and navigation
- Experience installing, upgrading, configuring and administrating MS SQL Server products
- Experience working with end-users to build reports from concept to implementation
- Experience creating requirements documentation and technical specifications
- Strong understanding of AD, backup and storage utilization, iSCSI, Netapps and Server Virtualisation
- Sound knowledge of ITIL best practice, particularly Configuration and Release Management
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field with coursework in technology-related subjects
