Description
We require a VMWare Specialist for an initial 6 month contract role based on a client site in Edinburgh to start ASAP.
Essential skills/experience required:
Expert knowledge of VMWare infrastructure products - vSphere ESXi, vCenter, Site Recovery Manager and View Horizon.
Knowledge of VMWare Orchestrator, VCenter Update Manager
Knowledge of storage area networks preferably EMC Clariion range
PowerShell
Windows technologies
At least 5 years experience working in an ICT 3rd line support/infrastructure environment
Role:
The client operates an IT network based on Microsoft Office Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office 2010 as the base product. It also provide virtual application hosting environments for production, development and outward facing applications. These environments run on VMware 5.0 hypervisor environment utilising EMC Clariion storage area networks
We are now seeking an IT VMware Systems Administrator to support approximately 1000 virtual machines and 50 vSphereESXi hosts). In addition there are two VMware View Horizon implementations supporting 300 VDI desktops. For disaster recovery we use VMware Site Recovery Manager 5.0 with EMC RecoverPoint hardware based replication. A small team of four staff support these environments.
Duties include:
Support and lead existing team to plan, test and implement upgrade of the environments to vSphere 5.1, SRM 5.1 and latest VMware view horizon supported by the infrastructure
Day to day administration of all environments change
Mentoring of existing team and skills transfer
Document all environments using Visio and standard office tools
Review automation for the deployment of virtual machine templates and implement via Orchestrator where possible.
Provide 3rd line technical support to resolve IT incidents and problems, and offer support and guidance on technical matters to enable delivery of business objectives;
Interpret manuals and advice on behalf of non-technical users and provide ad-hoc training in normal usage
