Job Title - Mechanical Engineer
Reports to – Head of production supervision
Summary of job
The mechanical engineer is responsible for designing mechanical systems, preparing drawings and layouts for hospital-wide projects and oversees all installations. They will also provide on – site construction supervision.
Responsibilities & Duties
Communicates with Hospital departments at various levels to discuss and identify needs and requirements.
Designs and prepares mechanical systems (plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, water and sewage treatment, fire systems, medical gas systems, ect.) including drawings to strictly conform to international codes, standards and professional practices.
Coordinates mechanical systems with architectural components of the building and other disciplines.
Prepares site plans and unities drawing
Selects and specifies materials and equipment as required for systems design by the engineer or as requires and appropriate.
Prepares technical specifications and Bill or Quantise.
Inspects work designed by the engineer and others
Supervises onsite construction for compliance with the contracts technical specifications
Performs progress monitoring and quality assurance review
Reviews recommend approval of shop drawings, product data and samples submitted by contractors.
Prepares and updates as built drawings.
Reviews change orders and substitutions
Assists in resolving complex technical problems and coordinates problems resolutions
Participates in self and other education, training and development as applicable.
Follows all hospital and related policies and producers
Performs any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications required
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
Understanding of US codes and standards including NFPA, ASME, UL and ASHRAE
Skilled in AutoCAD, Microsoft office, Primavera and or Microsoft projects and engineering calculations software
Fluent in oral and written English essential
Experience required
Six years’ experience including a proven record in the design, specifications and construction of mechanical systems for new and existing buildings in a large health care facility setting.
Excellent computer skills
Contractual understanding / data analyses skills
