SQL Server Database Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE

As part of the technical service for Database Hosting Services, this role is responsible for Senior DBA support in the areas:

* Database engineering, architecture, tools, & processes for operations, projects and service improvement
* Resolving critical incidents, support either the ext. service provider or taking over escalated incidents
* Build new solutions (Prototypes, Template, Concept, ..)
* Lead technical Design in Changes and Projects

Service Innovation

* Identify Demand/CSI, trends, (IT) best-practices
* (Joint) Solution Evaluation, Approval and support of Change/Project

As an Engineer, the responsibilities require to

* Execute standard Service Requests, mainly in the area of SQL System/DB Enhancements
* System Maintenance/Upgrade/Patch Management
* Back/Restore of DBs
* Disaster Recovery & High-Availability Management
* Execute Change Request to correct or enhance MS SQL systems or solutions
* Act in Incident Management as 
* Manager of activities to resolve an escalated or major Incident
* Support the resolution of Incidents with knowledge or active incident resolution (Troubleshooting of SQL Server log shipping)
* Operational support in exceptional situations (escalated or major Incident)
* Monitoring & Performance Tuning of SQL Server/Databases
* Administration and Security Management of SQL databases
* Enforce architectural governance, deployment standards and best practices for SQL Server databases
* including installation, patching and high availability configurations

The technical scope of the job includes

* MS SQL Server (clustered and non-clustered)

The functional scope of the job includes

* Senior DBA support to Database Operations, Projects, Design & Engineering

ACCOUNTABILITIES

In addition to accountabilities listed above in Job Purpose:

Prime Anchor Profile - Technical Analyst:

Responsible for designing infrastructure components and systems required to provide a service.

* Ensures a detailed specification of technologies and products as a basis for their procurement and customization.
* Works with users, sponsors, Application Management and all other stakeholders to determine their evolving needs.
* Works with Application Management and other areas in Technical Management to determine the highest level of system requirements required to meet the requirements within budget and technology constraints.
* Defines and maintains knowledge about how systems are related and ensuring that dependencies are understood and managed accordingly.
* Performs cost-benefit analyses to determine the most appropriate means to meet the stated requirements.
* Develops operational models that will ensure optimal use of resources and the appropriate level of performance.
* Ensures that the infrastructure is configured to be effectively managed given the organization's technology architecture, available skills and tools.
* Ensures the consistent and reliable performance of the infrastructure to deliver the required level of service to the business.
* Defines all tasks required to manage the infrastructure and ensuring that these tasks are performed appropriately.
* Inputs into the design of configuration data required to manage and track the application effectively.

Shared Anchor Profile - Problem Analyst:

The Problem Analyst provides incident and problem analytical support in support of resolution, follow up and prevention thereof.

* Reviews incident data to analyse assigned problems.
* Analyses problems for correct prioritization and classification.
* Investigates assigned problems through to resolution or root cause.
* Coordinates the actions of others as necessary to assist with the analysis and resolution actions for problems and known errors.
* Monitors progress on the resolution of known errors and advising incident management staff on the best available workaround for incidents.
* Updates the known error database (KEDB) with new or updates known errors and workarounds.

Prime Anchor Profile - Release Packaging & Build Practioner:

Plays a key supportive role in the optimal planning and deployment of all activities associated with a release.

* Helps to design the release package, during the service design stage of the service life cycle, in conjunction with personnel from other teams and functions.
* Establishes the final release configuration, including knowledge, information, hardware, software and infrastructure.
* Builds the release.
* Tests the release prior to independent testing.
* Establishes and reports outstanding known errors and workarounds.
* Provides input to support change authorization for check-in of the release to the definitive media library (DML).
