Senior Buyer ( Electrical & Mechanical ) - Stevenage - £24ph

Responsible for procurement of products/services at the best possible price, delivery and quality with the purpose of maximising operational efficiency whilst contributing to company savings targets.

Accountabilities:
Raising, maintaining and managing Request For Quotations, Purchase Orders and outstanding Order book in an effective and timely manner using SAP.
Responsibility for tracking orders and reporting difficulties/missed deadlines
Follow Category strategy and pro-actively provide ideas and solutions towards its development. Provide support to Category managers as appropriate
Understand customer needs by participating in multifunctional/international teams, supporting the team in defining negotiation strategies for specific categories.
Understand and be able to negotiate contract clauses such as pricing, delivery, liquidated damages, termination, insurance etc by using Company templates.
Lead low value/low complexity negotiations with suppliers to optimise cost, delivery and quality of products.
Manage suppliers and where necessary build up longer term supplier management expectations.
Support Supplier Development activity with Supply Chain Assurance.
Build strong relationships with suppliers in order to meet Internal
Customer requirements effectively.
Identify savings opportunities and liaise with Category Manager on
Follow-up actions.
Active management of customer's requirements often with shorter than
expected timescales
Build strong relationships with Internal customers in order to effectively
serve their needs
Support preparation of briefs and reports for Senior Management reviews,
including potential issues/risks and recommendations.
Actively support functional excellence programmes, identifying areas for
improvement where new processes may be required.

Skills and Knowledge:
Significant practical experience, vocational or academic qualifications
Strong team and communication skills
Good written, verbal and presentation skills
Good ability to use Excel, PowerPoint & Word
Good negotiation skills.
Proactive approach/self starter
Ability to work under pressure
Organisational, planning and admin skills.
Pragmatic approach to business issues.
Commercial experience of contract terms and conditions (Desirable)
Knowledge of cost make-up and pricing. (Desirable)
Knowledge and experience of SAP Materials Management (Desirable)
Awareness of multinational cultures
French/Italian/German language skills (Desirable)
Understanding of purchasing environment (Desirable)
