Communications Specialist required for 4 month contract with large utilities company in Edinburgh.

As part of a portfolio of change and transformation initiatives, the client is in the process of upgrading their entire desktop and laptop environment to Windows 7 and Office 2010, along with new technologies that will enable a whole new cultural approach to agile, collaborative working.

Part of the project Business Change Workstream and reporting to the Business Change Manager, the role will work as a single point of contact for a specific area within the business, while also contributing to and collaborating with the project Business Change team on project engagement, communication, promotion and events activities.

Key activities/responsibilities

. Ensure there is a business perspective on how the new desktop capabilities will be delivered at every stage of the project
. As single point of contact, capture stakeholder needs and business requirements to inform the project
. Produce a stakeholder impact assessment to fully understand the impact of the migration on people and day to day operations
. Work with key contacts to formulate and deliver implementation and deployment plans to minimise disruption to people, the business and to maximise benefits
. Contribute to the planning and delivery of communications to ensure stakeholders are kept fully informed. Ensure messaging and delivery are aligned with the whole project and wider change initiatives.
. Work in partnership with the business and the Learning & Development team to produce a training strategy and plan that is aligned with the whole project and wider change initiatives.
. Identify appropriate business champions/change agents and be and active, visible coach and support for them
. Manage and track customer satisfaction with the project and make recommendations to improve processes and procedures.
. Identify potential people-side risks and anticipated points of resistance and develop specific plans to mitigate or address the concerns

Essential Skills required
. Excellent stakeholder, engagement and communication skills - both written and verbal
. Able to work effectively at all levels in the organisation
. Excellent planning and organisational abilities
. Ability to translate clear, strong messages into effective communications
. Creative communication ideas and innovative approaches that will effectively engage and enthuse people
. Previous experience of working on change projects
. Experience and knowledge of change management approaches eg Kotter, and a good understanding of how people go through change
. Familiarity with project management approaches
. Strong analytic, problem solving and decision making abilities
