Description

Customer.io is looking for an experienced Front End Engineer to help build fast, sexy interfaces that people enjoy using. You'll join join our team of 5. We're a geo-distributed company.

You can be wherever you want to be.

About the company:
Customer.io is an email marketing platform for web and mobile apps. Our customers include Shopify, Shutterstock, The Economist, and over 400 others. We started with angel funding in 2012. In 2013 we had explosive growth and grew revenue 20x . We just crossed our break-even point, have cash in the bank and we're planning to stick around for a long time growing with money from subscription revenue, not more investors.

We're building a fully distributed company. We started in NYC but made the decision to make the company remote. Our CEO is moving to Portland, Oregon. We have one person in Washington state. John, our CTO decided to leave NY and is working while traveling the world.

The role:
You should be a product focused engineer ready to work on an infrastructure app that is mission critical for your peers at over 400 other tech companies.

People use Customer.io to send millions of emails each day. The two primary people using the app are engineers who are integrating the app and sending us the right analytics data and marketers who are creating sophisticated triggered and manual email campaigns.

The main goal of the front-end application is to give people super powers to send behavior-based emails; emails that are targeted and perfectly timed. All this power is dangerous so we also need to make it hard to make mistakes (like sending emails to the wrong people).

You'll be working in a modern 3 tiered architecture:
  • Front end in Ember.js deployed as a static site
  • API in Ruby to provide an easy, RESTful way for our app (and others) to access data.
  • Services in Go written for performance

  • You’ll be responsible for:
  • Shipping code to production!
  • Working with the CEO & CTO to figure out what we'll build next.
  • Understanding (and empathizing with) user needs and goals in the system
  • Having an opinion on UX and usability
  • Building and maintaining a test suite for code coverage of the front end UI.
  • Hiring additional engineers to work on the front-end app with you

  • Things we'd encourage:
  • Contributing back to open source when appropriate
  • Sharing your experience building customer.io at conferences and meetups

  • Benefits
Work anywhere in the world you want. We'll buy you what you need to deck out your home office or give you a monthly budget for some co-working space. We want you to work where you'll be most productive.

  • Competitive salary. We’re offering $100,000 - $130,000 per year for this position in the company
  • Equity. You'll own a piece of the company. It's not a get-rich-quick deal, but if you stay around for a while, we're planning to a long-lasting company and your piece of it will be a nice bonus.
  • Minimum of 2 weeks vacation per year. Take time off when you want / need it. We want you to be able to recharge your batteries so you're happy and productive at work.
  • Company retreats 1 - 2 times per year. We've rented a cabin on a lake in Hunter Mountain, NY and just spent a week in a giant house in Barcelona.
  • Computer of your choice. We tend to use Apple Macbooks but we'll buy you whatever you're going to be most productive on.
  • Cell phone & home internet covered - It's just a little extra, but we'll cover your work cell phone and home internet. No, you won't be expected to be accessible 24 hrs a day!
  • Health coverage - We'll make sure you have health, dental and vision coverage in your country / state in the US.

  • Anything else we missed? If there are other benefits that would be important to you, let us know. we'd be happy to consider adding them.
